Title: May Lose My Foot
Post by: Sir-diealot on October 05, 2023, 10:12:01 AM
So things have gone very badly with my foot surgery, badly infected and into the bones. Doc came in this morning and advised me they are not sure they can save the foot and the way he said it I got the feeling there is no saving it.

Things just went all wrong after the surgery, Jane brain aneurysm meant I was on my feet constantly and there is just no room in a hospital room for using crutches so I was on the foot constantly. My GF doesn't know yet, a friend is going to the house to be with her when I call with the news.

I am fine with this if it happens, when we didn't know if she would live or not I told God he could take my foot if he let her live. I would pray the same again.

When I had my accident and couldn't hunt for 15 years I begged him for one mature tom and he gave me that, now I may never step into the woods again and I and still grateful for that turkey.

Say some prayers please, pray that God's will be done, not mine. Thank you. Please keep praying for Jane as well, my friend's going to my house today to be there when I tell her and I really worry about how she's going to take it, she's still not right from brain brain aneurysm.

Sorry for the bad news Steve. Don't give up on going to the woods. I grew up with a kid that lost his leg just below the knee when hopping trains. He played on the 9th grade baseball team. One game he got hit in the leg with a pitch.  It sounded like a baseball bat when it hit and the ball rolled to the shortstop. All the jaws dropped on the other team as this guy and our team laughed our butts off as he trotted to 1st base.

Don't give up and good Luck!

Will definitely be praying for you and I hope everything goes in a positive manner. If you do lose your foot then you are only going to be held back as much as you allow. My dad went through life with polio and minimal use of a left arm, but there is nothing I can do that he could not do. It was never an excuse to hold him back. He was a prolific high school baseball player and had quite the reputation in the church leagues around our area. Will it be easy, no but anything in life worth doing is not easy. God bless!

Don't give up on the woods, that will work out if you want it.

Joining everyone else in prayer. A wise man once told me there is opportunity in every tragedy. That foot has given you a lot of trouble, just maybe your better off without it. Heal up, get a prosthetic and go give those gobblers a work over. You got this brother, nothing is impossible with Jesus.

Hey Bro, You have certainly been a long suffering man and I wish this was not happening to you.
Last spring I went bird hunting with a man who at sixty, lost his left leg to above the knee due to cancer.  He walked me into the ground.  Seven miles over rough terrain.  We were both hurting but happy too.  You are in a tough spot for sure but God has a plan for you and he can help you through.  I will be praying for you as you go through this tough time.  Warm regards to you.
God has a message for you in the Bible in Ecclesiastes 7:8-14

Never, I say Never give up. If there is a will there is a way, but sometimes the way is different then we picture it. When our world is flipped upside down we often need some help, so accept the love and help of friends.

On the 5th of October 2009 I was shot through my left thigh with a broad-head and nearly bled to death. Late October a buddy hauled my lame body to a local farm and physically helped me onto a stump while he worked a bird to me and I killed a long beard. My wife said I was a complete idiot, but I disagree. In December I was able to walk about 100 yards with a cane on level ground and again a friend found me some birds working a field and I killed my second gobbler of the tragic fall. In September 2010 I fell and broke my right elbow and and tore the tricep off the bone and had to have surgery. I spent 13 weeks in either a cast or fixed motion brace. I learned to shoot left handed off a stick and after three misses killed my fall gobbler. I am not bragging I'm just giving you an example to encourage you to keep up the good fight. You've already fought so hard and should be proud of what you've done, so just reach a little deeper and know we're all cheering for you....

I had a long post typed out and then all of a sudden the screen went white and it lost it on me. Not going to type that all out again, took me an hour on this little cell phone. Anyway I still don't know what's going on they won't tell me.  One doctor makes me think there's a chance I could save my foot and another doctor makes me feel like there's no chance of saving my foot, I'm completely lost at this point  and aggravated, I just wish they would quit beating around the bush and tell me so I can brace myself for it. I am just worried about getting my GF to the store, laundry mat and so on and if she is even able yet, I don't want her to hurt herself, she is supposed to be in rehab for her aneurysm as it is. I am not feeling like much of a providing man right now and I don't want her hurt again because of me.

Thanks guys. I have been very discouraged, not only because of the foot but being trapped in one room is driving my claustrophobia into hyperdrive. Luckily I have a wheelchair I can zip around in the hospital with, I would like to go outside but it has gotten kinda cool out and all I have with me are shorts and a T-shirt. That or a gown and there are parts you just don't want a frigid wind blowing up against.

This is a grateful foot at home in front of it's TV They came in around 2:45 to tell me that I could go home if I wanted to which was quite the shock to me because I thought they said they were going to keep me until Friday at least to do a biopsy on the spot where I had my implant put in next to the big toe. I scrambled around finding a ride currently wound up getting a service to bring me home I picked me up at 5:00 I'm here now but I feel totally exhausted but still very happy to be home and in relatively one piece. I've got to go back to the doctor and I'm going to be taking some very strong antibiotics orally twice a day for the next 3 months as well as getting check ups X-rays and CAT scans over the next couple months keep track of the foot. My biggest problem is I'm out of my medicine and can't pick it up till tomorrow I could have been dropped off by my truck but I had taken medicine already and I won't drive after I've taken medicine, I don't want to hurt somebody the way somebody hurt me so we'll deal with this till morning then go pick it up. Going to need continued prayer my foot definitely is not out of the woods yet as I said it's going to have to be monitored. I want prayers for most is my girlfriend Jane she's still has a lot of things she needs help with in the shows since her aneurysm I had to cancel her appointment for today with her neurologist because I was in the hospital which bothers me. She's going to need some re-educational things because it's obvious things aren't right so she doesn't see them, I just asked if you please keep her in prayer in the therapy she may need. I thank you all very much I truly do it's meant a lot I just hope things keep going well by the grace God.

Thank you everyone, I truly appreciate it as I am sure Jane does as well. I will try to get on the computer as I can, putting my fut down really hurts after a short bit so you will mostly get me using voice type on the cell phone. I appoligize for the horrible punctuation and misplaced words ahead of time. lol Going to go pick up truck from the hospital tomorrow, not so sure I am looking forward to that though, it needs to be vacuumed out badly, I may just bring a bag to wear over my walking boot in all honesty, I can't stand to do it myself or I would.

Steve.

Sure do how so! It is feeling better most of the time so long as I keep it elevated, if I don't I sure do feel it. I did a little cleaning in the living room last night, that made for an interesting time. lol I just couldn't stand looking at it anymore, it was not much, just all the boxes that got delivered when I was in the hospital had to be torn/broken down for recycling but that was enough to get the foot going for a bit. It will be a process of healing, the worst part of which is time.

My GF has already fallen back into bad habits, really frustrates me, I thought I had gotten all the temptation out of the house for her but I came upstairs from bring up a shower chair and got halfway across the house and smelled a cigarette, man I wish they would outlaw those things. Then she started up with caffeine in her energy drinks, and taking ibuprofen the three biggest things they told her not to do and she was doing them all inside half an hour of being home. To say I was not happy would be an understatement. She did flush the ibuprofen after which is good but I would rather see the smokes go.

I am so glad I quit and had an easy time doing it something like 14 years ago, I was a pack and a half to two pack a day smoker and just quit cold turkey, I have to thank God for that, with the lifestyle I led when I was young so many of my friends got addicted to what we were doing and I was able to walk away from all of them rather easily and I have seen some of them destroy their lives with them. Sure didn't do it on my own.

Thank you very much for the compliments there appreciated and I feel the same of you. At this point things are looking pretty good for the foot I just have to use my head and continue to take my antibiotics and remember to eat something before I take the one, oh jeez did I wind up sick the other night because I didn't eat before taking them. I do think the middle toe will have to be done a third time though, it was looking good but with all that happened it is not looking good as far as being straight goes. No current sign of infection in any of them though which is a very good thing obviously. My girlfriend's being hard-headed when it comes to getting to her appointments, she's really needing help and it's more than I'm capable of doing, I simply lack the knowledge it's not physical need she's in need of it's education that I don't have, some more so than me keep her in your prayers please, I love her very much and don't want to lose her.

No not to far at all, I am roughly the same South of Elmira. Went to doctor today, skin is healing well but I still have what she refereed to as "Sausage toes" meaning they are still more swollen than they would like them to be. One of the hard parts since I have been home is making sure I take the antibiotics on a full stomach, I never eat at set times but try to take them at 9 and 9 but have to find things I can eat without having to cook in the morning as my diet is all meats, eggs and cheeses so I normally have my GF cook for me but with all she has been through I can't have her doing a lot of that so I am eating lots of pepperoni, and hunters sausage in the morning so I can take my pills and not get incredibly sick like I did over the weekend when I took them without eating. Lesson learned, the hard way, the only way I have ever seemed to learn. lol

Steve do you have a griddle? We did the carnivore diet a while back and an sticking pretty close to it now. The griddle is so easy to go cook bacon, eggs, and sausage on. You can do it all at the same time if you want to. Super easy to throw a steak on to.  I do 90 seconds on each side then melt some butter on and start doing 60 seconds back and forth in the butter.

Yes I do, the electric is rather odd in this old house and I have to be careful to not blow a fuse in warmer weather as the A/C is always on. You can't run the A/C and the toaster or the fuse blows. Now that it is warmer I will use it more though. We cook in the crockpot A LOT.

So I was able to put a sneaker on my left foot for the first time since September First,  kinda hurt at first and I didn't think I could keep it on long, I was able to keep it on about 3 hours though. I'm still on crutches when my left hand will let me use them. I was told the surgery unfortunately didn't really work though, I am not surprised, everything just went wrong is all. Toes are not much better if at all from when I had the surgery, if things had not gone as they did they would be much straighter. I had hopped it would help me hunt better and maybe get me out of the blind and back to the ground, maybe it still will, we will see. Still a lot better than when. I thought I would lose it, though.

Thanks bud. Kind of funny looking at the sneaker, I bought them two days before the surgery so it looks brand new and the other one looks not brand new. lol

Thank you bud. It is still slowly healing, hurts to walk on but most days I can wear a shoe or boot now, though by the time I take them off the foot swells and I can't get one back on. Just want to get out for the season even if I am on crutches. May have lost my spot though, if I did I won't be able to hunt anymore, I have to have a safe place to leave my blind and gear and if I don't I can't hunt and will just sell everything and invest in camera gear.

Foot is doing much better now bud, this was I think September or early October, hard to remember there has been so much going on with trying to take care of her. I had her back in the ER yesterday, honestly thought she may die in my arms on the bed, she was not replying to me for a bit. She has major problems with her blood pressure. Thank God she is doing better now, each day is efferent now since her brain bleed, there are days that sh is barely the same person, other days very much like she was, that person is gone now, I knew that from past experience with a friend that had a brain injury. I love those days she is mostly herself, but I truly do miss who she was. I am just glad I still have her.
