If you could only carry one call, who's the maker, what type of call is it, what wood or materials is it made of? Thanks in advance for your responses! I really enjoy all the valuable information and entertainment everyone provides on this forum!
I would carry a African Blackwood Push-pin by Shannon. It pretty much produces all the calls I use in the field. The purrs and clucks have lured in some fine gobblers over the years. I'll never hunt without one....be safe....
would be tough for me to pick one out of these 2 but I think either one would suit me well
ghost cut diaphragm. Not picky on the maker, they all work pretty well for me
Scotts custom turkey calls purple slate trough call, mine happens to be blue mahoe but all of his sound good. I haven't had it long but it jumped the list fast for me once I started using it this past spring
One ????
Does someone have a gun to my head for this ??? :TooFunny:
Sheesh !!! Ummmm....... OK.
A Gooserbat diaphragm.
One of my own pot calls, I have a redwood burl withe titanium on one side and red slate on the back and it has really come through time and time for me.
I love my walnut call. It is just so classy looking and has great acoustics/harmonics.
For straight up sound. My Purple Heart is a monster.

Another unsized photo. Grrrr.
My Sycamore short box. The Full Choke.
Air type caller .... IN a Tone Wood ....African Blackwood, Ironwood etc...
I've sampled a lot of box calls over the years, I couldn't narrow it down to one from the list below. I'd be very happy to only hunt any one of them as the only call I hunt, but I couldn't identify one as being better than the other. All are top shelf.
Steve Mann, paddle call, eastern red cedar over poplar.
Dan Wittenberg, paddle call, eastern red cedar over butternut.
SS Calls, handled short box, bloodwood over limba.....my son and I each have one of these and both are killers.
TJ Johnson, long box, bloodwood over butternut.
It would be either my cedar double slates or one of my scratch boxes.
A sadler mcgraw mouth call with a buster glass call in close second
My morgan style tube in mahogany, Mike
After the killing spree that it was a part of this spring I would probably have to go with my Permar 1930 trumpet.
A close second would be a Parks longbox.
Richard Shively Super Yelper Scratchbox. Cherry scratcher did the damage this year.
Shannon Kelley Macassar Push Pin - death to turkeys

Mouthcall: Denny Gulvas.
Long box: Billy Bush
Short box: Mike Lapp or Marlin Watkins
Scratch box: Mississippi
Delta, Alaskan yellow cedar

Wingbones: Tony Ezolt

Anything from Marlin Watkins, if a windy day the long box, pics of Alaskan yellow fever and serviceberry if I recall correctly. If not Monday then the Watkins short box I have two of them I think I'm partial to the persimmon/maccasscar*
My Grizz Frictionwood goes almost every hunt, I really like that call though the Watkins Coaxer I picked up may replace it after I learn it better.
Pots would be something that I have made from kits, my tulipwood from Old Crow with glass over crystal or crystal over glass, I can never remember that one right.

Big fan of the grizz friction wood myself...I have several soft talker calls but this one seems to elicit the most responses in the early morning hours and I can run it with minimal movement

Many days all i ever use is a mouth call, the same one all day. Many good makers out there so not picky. A ghost cut would be my first choice. On almost any hunt I will have 2-3 mouth calls and maybe a slate. Most days it's just 2 mouth calls, period. I just go with the simplest things that work. I hunt light and simple. Camo clothing, a vest, shotgun, 5 -6 shells and a couple mouth calls. That's it. I haven't failed to fill my home state tags in 25+ years and usually at least a couple OOS tags. Go with what makes you happy, but I'm a simple guy.
brinkcalls , here's your photo resized
Woodhaven ghost cut or Sadler Mcgraw ghost cut.

It helped me take my first and only turkey, it does seem to get them to turn their heads quite often, I just need to become a better caller.

Pinhoti Purple Ghost for me!

I'd have to go with a Sadler ghost cut or Townsend Osage glass

I'm probably going Ralph Permar delrin classic but I'd sure hate not to have a pot.

You're asking a loaded question. Imagine you asked what's the one lure you'd use all year or even all week for bass? You'd prob not have the best tool all the time No call works always and certainly not best. Even the composition changes things but I'll offer a consideration
A longbox might be a good choice for one call. It can do about everything, from all hen sounds, kee kee plus gobble, loud to softening it down some by holding soundboards. Impervious to rain if put in a bread bag. No one call imo can match it

If I could only have one it would probably be Cody World class slate with black knight striker. Turkeys love it

Mine would be a Marlin Watkins bloodwood over butternut fiddle box.
