Every few years my brother invites me hunting in Colorado. I drew a tag for Mule deer with a muzzleloader. I never hunted Mule Deer. It really was a unique experience. I hunted 3 days, and learned their habits and unique behavior. On the fourth day, I spotted this buck bedded at 7:30 am. I started my stalk working my way through sage, pinion brush, and Colorado scrub. At 10:00, I got within 50 yards. He finally stood up quartering away and the smoke pole lit up. I was fortunate to place a perfect shot right behind the shoulder. I never thought I would have this opportunity, I thank my dear brother for the invite. A bond between us, I will never forget.
Thanks for listening......

Thanks so much. Me and my bro have fun times together for sure........
Glad you had a great experience hunting mule deer, Tom. Congrats.
My other passion besides spring gobbler hunting is pursuing big mule deer bucks...most often with a muzzleloader, as well.

Awesome job Tom, congratulations again, I was hoping you would post up story! I hope your getting him mounted!?! Special hunt with your brother and velvet is in great shape!
Congrats on a nice Muley. Glad you and your brother had loads of fun and made some great memories. I had planned a few years back for a Mule deer hunt in Colorado and now my hunting partner is 80 and said he would not go with me. I have 18 points for Mule Deer. Looks like a ton of fun.

Thanks Jeff. I spotted him at around 7:30 ish, slow stalk and got my shot at just around 10 am. I tried to make him stand at 55 yards. It's open sights, so I felt he was at a good range. Bedded facing away from me, wind blowing in his face. I was down wind behind him, perfect wind. When he wouldn't stand at 55, I crept in closer when he finally stood facing away from me. He turned very slightly giving me a shoulder shot. I was lucky enough to place a real good shot. Having him mounted in Colorado, they are good with velvet and Muley's. I dropped it off the afternoon I got him so they could get it frozen. Looking forward to getting it back....be safe, thank you.

Wow, a great hunt shared with your brother. Sounds like a very good memory for you.
Awesome buck! What powder and bullet were you using? I e been curious about Colorado but know they don't allow sabots like I'm currently shooting
Well done Sir.. thanks for sharing. Adventures like that, with family, are always special.

Hello. I used Triple 7 powder (no Pelletized powder allowed) with a 295 grain Hollowpoint Power belt. Colorado rules, open sites no scopes. I have good groups with 100 grains of powder. Hope this helps....thx
Thx for the kind words......
