The title says it all... What will be your first hunt this fall? For me it will most probably be grouse hunting around September 20, followed by Moose around october 1st, then maybe deer hunting and certainly fall turkey... Then grouse hunting until 15th of january and hare until 31st of march... What about you?
Bowhunting deer starting 10/1. I do not hunt turkey in the fall and no trips planned this year so all my hunting will be with the bow for deer locally.
Would love for it to be dove on Sept. 01 but haven't seen a single on in the past week or so. Probably it will be archery deer on Sept. 30.
Deer ... I need some frying meat for the freezer ... Beef Steak is too high to buy ...
Bow hunting deer!
I get just as excited bow hunt deer as I do shotgun hunting Spring Turkeys.
I don't know the first thing about it, but I'm planning on trying to figure out Canada geese this year. That September nonmigratory season that so many states have (15 per day, per person, no possession limit) is very enticing. So I've got some decoys and calls and what not and I'm going to try to learn it. Opens up Friday. Give me something to do each September before deer season comes in in October.

Used to kill the CRAP outta field geese !!! It's a BLAST. My best advice is.........hunt exactly where they were yesterday morning (the morning before you hunt). Set up with the wind directly at your back and set your spread 75% in front of you.......25% behind you.....with a 25 or so yard diameter "donut hole" right where you are laying. All goes right, you'll have gooses landing on your head if you don't shoot 'em.
If that yote shows his face one more time, it will be my first. Otherwise bow/deer. Oct.
It will be early teal in 3 days for me.
Deer archery 9-16
NJ, NY deer........Can't wait for November rut!
I will start bow hunting end of Sept in PA or OH. I will go back to Ohio end of Oct and move to KS to bow hunt around 2 Nov. I have a lease and am co-owner of property in Ohio. I have some really good friends in KS. I don't plan on hunting turkeys in fall.
Whatever runs out into the road in front of me next.

Happy, fresh road kill can be mighty tasty... As long as the buzzards don't find it first ... LOL... Hey and if you didn't kill it, it's free and cheap meat for the taking ... LOL
Turkey, grouse and quail season all start on the first of September for me. I can encounter any of those, so a turkey gun and an upland gun will be with me and I'll go after what makes sense at the time. I have been seeing a lot of quail in the area as well as turkeys.
Blacktailed deer in October and into November. Then Elk in late November. My turkey gun will come along for the ride, just in case. Then turkey and upland birds until I tag out on turkeys or the end of January happens.
September 15th archery elk in Arizona
Squirrel, deer, bear, rabbit then turkey in the spring. I will hold off on the squirrel until mid October. We have alot of warbles around here and I am not eating those squirrels so will wait until after a frost or two before I go.
Hopefully a grouse or two falls in-between the bear and rabbit.
September 1st will be shooting some doves then Sept 15th will target some long beards with the bow then Oct 1st some turkeys with shotgun Nov will be ducks and deer
Doves September 1st then turkey in mid October. Ohio and Kentucky for turkeys
October 1st in New York is the Pheasant Season Opener.
CACKLE- CACKLE--- BOOM!!

I am sure Happy has a recipe for BUZZARD... :TooFunny:
Deer with a bow. Opens Oct. 1st, but the way things are going I'll be lucky to get out before Halloween. Started a complete gut & remodel of the kitchen this week. Hoping to be done by the 1st of October. When we are done with the kitchen the wife wants the grandkids to come stay at least one, if not two weekends. Heck, I don't even the crossbow completely sighted in or any treestands put up yet. :'( :'(
Deer archery Oct. Love to bow hunt. Considerable percentage of our red meat consumption is venison annually. Still put spring Turkey first but do enjoy getting a shot at a big ol doe time to time.....
I have to be at the hospital tomorrow morning at 6:30 do you have surgery on my foot having three four hammer toes fixed they're cutting off a piece of bone and replacing it with an artificial piece soooo no hunting for me this fall. Best to luck to all of you though.

Archery Bear, starts tomorrow. Did not draw any elk tags so figure I would try otc bear.
Bear hunting. Baits are out. Unless... there's a field with 100 geese in it... I'd probably go for them.

I plant a dove field every year. Been a bunch in it. Waiting on my brother to get here this morning.
The only thing on the immediate horizon are perhaps some half-hearted attempts at dove hunting and the early teal season. However, it has been so dry this summer here that both of those will probably be more of the "taking my shotguns out for a walk" sort-of outings. Until the last of October, my time mostly will be alternating between scouting for mule deer and fishing.
There are other species of big game here that I would LIKE to be hunting, but nowadays all of them are allotted through drawings with astronomical odds, so I rarely get to pursue and of them anymore. If you live in a state where over-the-counter tags are still the norm,...pause here to thank your lucky stars!
Brother and I had a good hunt this morning to start the fall off. It exceeded my expectations.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230901/82d16c046d886790f696dd1e8b123879.jpg)

I would like to take my shotgun for some half hearted hunt me too ;D There is crows that I could go 'hunting' while scouting for fall turkey... And soon there will be early geese season that will start... But once again, it would be more of a take my shotgun out for a walk...
I wish you a good prepapration for mule deer... They must be very nice to hunt.
You're right about the over-counter tags... Here it's all available simply over the counter... It is a luck. And to add to that, I have places to go hunting for free... What a luck, I sure can thank my lucky star...
But with hunting, it sometimes feel like the grass is always greener on the other side... For exemple, here I read guys saying they are planning to kill a few deers this fall to fill the freezer... While me on the other side, even though I am a very passionnate hunter, I have never killed a deer ;D So I say sometimes we have to just enjoy what we have and be gratefull for it. :smiley-patriotic-flagwaver-an

Yess! :icon_thumright: You guys made a great hunt! Fresh natural meat, a few burnt cartridges... Life is good :z-guntootsmiley: Thanks for sharing this pic, don't hesitate to share some more on this post if you have the occasion :icon_thumright:
Well I had to break a promise yesterday. I promised ms. Browning ( my shotgun )I would take her dove hunting and let her kill some doves. All the fields that I know of that actually have a good dove hunt are on local WMA and open hunts. This is one time I wish it was a limited draw. The local WMA has 5 dove fields and when I arrived 1.5 hours before daylight there were 12-15 cars in each lot. By shooting hours the lots were overflowing. I apologized to browning and drove home, she got a ride and that was it. I hunted this WMA for 20 years for doves and could always get a stand, this is by far the worse I have ever seen it. Covid brought a lot of people outdoors and I'm sorry to say this, but I think we are at saturation for hunters to available space/resource . Yet state agencies and federations are still beating the drum for more recruiting. Ohio has some draw dove hunts and next year I will enter the draws, as much as I hate it. At least at the draw hunts you get a chance to have a safe dedicated stand. These idiots on open hunts are scary to be around, they will set up 30 feet from you and shoot over you. In the past it was mostly seasoned dove hunters and most were very respectful of spacing and stand etiquette, not this younger generation.
Deer hunting starting mid-October.

That dog is going into her 10th season and can't hear a lick.
It gets tough when our buddies get old Paulmyr, we have a 14 going on 15 year old lab. He does well for an old dog but he still thinks he's about 8. we have to watch or he gets wound up and his hips go out and he crashes, afraid one of these days a wipe out will do him in. This is my last dog, I can't stand burying them anymore.
Possibly some doves this month. I'll start bow hunting deer in October. I'll hunt the fall turkey seasons in October and December.
I'm heading to the mountains to "hunt" for a specific type of wild mushroom know as Boletus edulis
Since it was 101 hit the pond with the dogs. Went 3 for 3. You can see how low my pond is and all the beautiful sunflowers that have prosperee in this extreme drought. My bees are hammering the sunflowers.

Will open up on resident Geese when they move off the City grass and find some County corn or peanuts. Got a good bunch since they stayed in town till the season ended last year. Took over 350 in 2021 so they needed to rebound some.

Nice strap and faithful friend!
Saw first flight of BWT last night which had me more excited than the 10' gator I was trying to hook!!
They're heading your way! Seen about 50 on a local pond in the neighborhood that has been void of ducks all summer. The guy harvesting wild rice by the cabin in north central Mn said he's been seeing a lot of the little ducks! Haven't been able to get out this weekend as I been working on getting the replacement to the old timer in the pic over a touch of gun shyness and getting her introduced to birds. Wish I could get her out on the ducks but she's just not ready yet.
My first hunt will be the same as every fall. A nice quiet stroll in the woods carrying a favorite 22 or maybe even a 17 HM2 and busting gray squirrels.
I have hunted them for over 50 years and never tire of it. Kind of like hunting turkeys as I never tire of that either.
I finally went hunting and I got a nice male spruce grouse. My last one was 2 years ago as they are more rare than ruffed grouse.
Squirrel. Been that way for 60 years. Old .22 Remington if I want some. The T/C .32 muzzleloader if just scaring them.
Pheasants, South Dakota, October 6-9. Then, mix of deer, quail and ducks.
Went hunting again this friday and got 4 grouse and 1 spruce grouse, which completed my daily limit of 5.
