Title: What about the stack frame mouth call?
Post by: Houndstooth Game Calls on July 05, 2011, 10:38:41 PM
I was curious if any of the OG guys liked using the stack frame calls, I dont hear a whole lot about them any more and I will tell you they sound good in the woods front end or raspy whatever they have called many a turkey home. My findings when I used them the quality of them kinda died and I changed calls myself. But I had some guys ask me to build them some so I tinkered away and finally figured it out with some little tricks and I had a good 2 reed stack call. All the guys who got them had great results with them and so on, but I was just wanting to know if any were still using them these days and if you changed to another call because of inconsistencies in the call or what ever reason.--lyle

I used to use several from Primos, then about 10 years they changed something. The new ones suck. I liked the true triple, true double, and true double two. there was a fourth one and it sucked. I use them anymore. We used kill a bunch of birds with them.

I also used to use the old Eddie Salter stack frames....in fact I still have about 5 left, brand new.

I used the Primos True Double exclusively for years. They were a mouth full, but sounded good. Never cared for the Eddie Salter stack. Just kinda drifted away from the True Double, maybe because of cost.

When I use a mouth call it's normally a Primos True Double.  It's easy for me to use and more often than not turkeys answer me when I call to them with it. Some folks say it's too big but it fits in my mouth pretty well. I reckon I just got a big mouth.

I tried the Primos true double many years ago. Felt like I had a car in my mouth. Never tried another one.

I really like the stack frame calls. . . .I don't use them as my primary mouth call, but they're the first thing I switch to if I want a different hen sound.  I love their rasp, and to me they seem to call really easily.  Are you thinking of selling them?  I'd sure try a couple if you're headed that direction.

Yes I am planning on building them and selling them I gonna try something with them in the process of building them. Guess the reason for asking about these calls is when you got a good one they would sing and the one thing I noticed about stretching them in the ones I built all of them were consistent due to stretching them by gauges wich means every one is streched the same tension.

@ pmule- soon as I get some made next week or so I will shoot you a pm!

I have used the true double and when I did, it worked real well in the woods.  It was big in my mouth but trimed the tape back and it felt much better.  Still a call to use when no other works!

True savduck I might just try that I am planning on adding a small frame like that to our line I have had alot of people want them. Thats a good idea I think the stack frame to me was one of the easiest calls to learn on. Those stack calls use to go for $13 to $15 wich was crazy JMO I know I wouldnt sell them for that!
