I got my 2022 SD Merriams back from the taxi, and he looks great!! He was a limbhanger, which to my experience with Merriams is unusual. I had him mounted doing what he was doing prior to fly down, which is strutting back and forth on the roost limb. My WY trip was one I'll always cherish.
My trip was a SD-WY combo, and was my most memorable to date, along with my Mexico trip for a Goulds.

Nice bird! Only way I would want one mounted except for maybe in the limbhanger pose.
Great looking mount of a fantastic bird. Congrats Jim.

Very nice, both the work and the bird.
I had forgotten that from prior post I think Rut and I were in basically the same general area in early May 2022. For anyone planning a Merriam safari if you find Belle Fourche SD on a map and draw a 100 mile circle around it you should find these heavily white tipped birds. This will include areas in the states of SD, WY, and MT. I was on a one and done WY hunt and after tagging out had plenty of time to drive around and glass. No doubt these are pure Merriam with no hint of hybridization. I'm using mine as my forum avatar. I hope for a return trip. That is one of the best taxidermy jobs I've seen Rut. Congrats again.
Real nice bird. Congrats.

Correct Joey! We were hunting in the same general area. Loaded with Merriams turkeys.
