Been thinking about getting a new turkey gun for next season. Been looking at a Mossberg 835 at walmart for a month or so and finally broke down and got it yesterday for $327 plus tax, about $350 all together. It has the 24" barrell. I am going to put my star dot in it. Going to pattern some Mag blends in it. Tomorrow I am going to deep clean the barrell per Mr. Clark's instructions on allaboutshooting. Will post pictures as it comes along. Here is a picture of it before I begin getting it together:

Nice shooter; Im a remington 870 fan but cant help but want one after seeing all the nasty patterns from them posted here on OG.
Congrats on your new turkey killer! :icon_thumright:
I hope you have as good luck as I did with mine it is a shooter!!
Awesome gun! One piece of advice. I would get a limbsaver for that bad boy, especially if you're gonna shoot mag blends through her.
I love mine. Best decision I made picking one up!
A beautiful gun that should work well for you for many, many years of hunting. Congratulations!
Thanks,
Clark
Fine looking Turkey Tumbler
The 835's are the best patterning guns out there in my opinion! I shoot a Rhino .695 in my and get fantastic results. Best of Luck!
I have an 835 already but am going to retire it. It just had a wood stock. Might still use it for deer.

I looked at one after midnight at my local Walmart while I was getting groceries. It looks like yours. But the barrel may be longer. I like it. Those 835's shoot better than any gun that I have owned period. Some may not like them, but mine has yet to fail me.
Congrats on your purchase. You did very well. I know you can't buy em cheaper than that new. :icon_thumright:

That's one gun that can really benefit from the Knoxx Spec Ops stock, especially if you plan on shooting heavy loads. Otherwise, prepare for pain at the pattern board. The Limbsaver does help, however.

If you go Knoxx, remember you cannot mount a conventional tube scope. You will get mashed in the head. If you plan on open sights or a red dot, it will work very well.
I had one many moons ago, I purchased one a year or two after they first came out , back in 90' I think-
The 835 has many built in features to the barrel and can be made to shoot like a champ -
I only wish they had the newer recoil pads like they have today , that would have saved me from the pounding I would get - I had a scope on mine and that thing cut me 5 stitches wide on my brow, glad it wasn't my retina
I think the newer type recoil pads should be a standard feature on any 3.5 chamber gun - the new pads work so well

I agree Shannon. I wouldn't even think about shooting a 3.5 shell out of my 835 without a limbsaver.
you won't be sorry for that purchase. I bought mine at wally about 4 years ago for $289
Congrads on your next turkey killer.I almost bought a 835 this spring but opted for a older 11-87 i found and couldnt pass up.Im sure it will serve you well,,,looking forward to some pattern pics you get from it.
congrats on your new turkey gun,I have 2 835's and wouldn't trade them for nothing, best patterning shotguns I have ever owned
Congrats!! Nice looking gun!
I've got one just like it. It's a shooter. The only problem I had is the POI was high. No big deal though, a scope was a simple fix.
Congratulations! It would be interesting to see a pattern before the deep cleaning and after to show possible improvement.
Congrats on a great looking turkey killer! :z-guntootsmiley:
I was able to deep clean the barrell tonight, lots of junk came out and glad that I did it, and started to mount my scope on it but I did not have any metric allen wrenches. Did get my sling attached and put my Star Dot choke in. Going to try to get scope mounted tomorrow.
We have got to see pics after she is finished and don't forget to post pattern pics :icon_thumright:
Wal-Mart must have been out of them Remington camo'd 870 super mag, all I know is I did buy one of the 835's on a heck of a good deal one time, shot 2 turkey loads out of it, got it out of my house, kicked way too dang hard even for me, the man i sold it to, said he cussed me every time he shoots it
They had the Remingtons but I am an 835 fan.
Got the scope mounted tonight, the sling attached, and the Star Dot choke inserted. Next step is the patterning board and I am not going to get the chane to do that until the weekend of July 23rd. Cannot wait to get it patterned. Here is a picture of the updated version:

Looks great! You will be super pleased! Nothing patterns like an 835!
I have the same gun. Do yourself a favor and put a limbsaver recoil pad on it. I have a Rhino .695 on mine but may be trying out a .670 choke before next season. Just can't decide which one...
Shot it yesterday at 40 yards taped with Hevishot Mag Blends 5,6,7s 3" 2 oz load. I got 176 in 10". Was going to shoot again to see what it averaged but a storm was rolling in. By the way, them Mag Blends will knock the fire out of you! Will post a picture of the pattern later this afternoon.

I thought they were pretty tame myself compared to shooting 3" sabot slugs out of an 870. Of course, I was shooting them out of a 935 though. ;D
Congrats on your new rig pal. I hope it works out great and that you kill a blue million turks with it. By the way....I shot a Federal Heavyweight 1.5 oz #7 through that choke you sold me the other day and WOW! It was tight, but the pattern was BAD NEWS! I think I'm gonna stick with the RSF .570 and Hevi-13 7's when my son is using it, but it will be toting the SSX and Fed 7'S when I carry it!
WOW THATS A NICW ONE :z-winnersmiley:

Very nice, even pattern you have there! That will thump ol' tom every day! :icon_thumright:
fine looking hunting pattern
you're gonna love your 835
Very nice.
Thanks,
Clark
Nice gun. Saw the same one at one of my local Wal-Marts, $327 is a great deal. I don't think I'll ever part with my 835, it's devastating with the Star-Dot I bought from you and the Hevi-13 3.5" 7's. Good luck with it!
Haven't had the time to pattern the 835 again since I am preparing for deer season. Wanted to add a limbsaver before I did it again anyway. Went to an outdoor store to waste time at lunch today and found the precision fit limbsaver for my gun for 29.99 so I picked it up. Going to put the limbsaver on her tonight and hope to shoot her again soon.
You will like that Limbsaver recoil pad, it made a big difference for me.
something else you might like is the Bear Tooth Comb Raising kit....mine came with stock spaces to adjust the length of pull and I can barely feel 2 3/4" shells through it...I added about an inch to the LOP and for sitting down it is perfect...I have the 28" version though and its a beast to run and gun with...
Well for some reason the precision fit limbsaver did not fit my gun. The screw holes were in different places, guess I will just stick with the pad on it. I have been taking a beating this long, why fix what has worked!?
Nice pattern hope my 835 dose as well I have no stardot went and bought a Primos jellyhead hear they work well mine is old woodland camo bought it used but it looked new in shape and paid 200.00 so I had to lose the new style camo that I wanted but could not pass on the price same gun different camo.

Did the pad come with a spacer? I had to add two holes to mount the spacer I believe and used the regular holes in the pad to mount the actual pad. Now that was a while ago so I might have it backwards. It looks to me like they (Mossberg) changed the stock. Call Limbsaver on the 800 number and they will help you out in fact they sent me a free new one.
877.257.2761 this is their number.
