After 25 days of hunting I had no intention of hunting today. My left eye has been bothering me and The doc wants to see me in the morning. The misses said you still have time this morning it will be your last chance. I responded by the time I get where I want to set up I`ll have 2 hours, why not.
I slipped around a fields edge and set up about 50 yards from a duster. Did some cutting, purrs and yelping on a glass call. Nothing. I had to convince myself to chill out as I wanted to move so bad. Frustration was getting to me. Knowing my best option was to relax and stay put I slipped a ghost cut in my mouth for an old trick. I did a series of kee kee runs and shut up. I was about 10 yards in the hardwoods looking into a cut field. About 10 minutes later he slipped in out of a green field quiet. Never gobbled. My 1st opportunity of the season. Last hour of the last day I could hunt. I lined the swamp fox reticle on his neck. 1st time using the 20.The Apex 20 ga 3inch #8`s rolled him dead at 28 yards. I was elated. After respecting the bird and thanking the good Lord I called my wife and said were having turkey fajitas tomorrow!
Congratulations on your gobbler
Congrats!

Way to stick with it, some days it just gets hard to keep going especially after some frustrating days!
Well played. Congrats, and good luck with the eye issue.

WTG Old Timer!
Those last-minute birds when you have already thrown in the towel are some of the most rewarding and remembered! Congratulations,...and way to stick it out until the very end!

We have been together close to 50 years now so she gets it. My drive for the outdoors was hard on her early on when we had young ones. Although she has always appreciated me filling the freezer. And the nudges are a nice gesture on her part at times I need it. Thanks

Not many men are as lucky.
Wow!! Way to hang in there! I remember seeing your post not long ago that you had hunted several pieces of property and had hunted nearly every day and had only worked one bird - congratulations on sticking it out !! Nothing like a last minute season saver!!
Thank you. It was quite a day!
Congratulations
Perseverance and patience has killed many a bird!
I know next year you will listen to your wife again. Good for her for telling you to get your butt out in the woods.
Congratulations on your Last Minute Bird.
Perfect end to the season bro, congrats. Z
Congratulations Old Timer on the last day success!! Hopefully your eye appointment goes well today too.
Congrats and hope you can take the wife out for her favorite dinner.
Great job man, congratulations on your late season gobbler
Nice work!
Congratulations on your bird and for the reminder of our need for patience, and mixing up our calling. These late season hunts can sure be tougher. Praying that all is well with the eye. Thank the Lord for a good wife!
Went to doctor this morning. I developed a big floater in left eye, very irritating. Had cataract surgery in fall. They were concerned about retina tear but all is well. I can live with the floater hoping it calms down. The Doctor told me things to watch and be aware of. Last day of season here and I had time to get out but after eye dilation I thought better of it. Thankful it was not more serious. Thanks everyone for your concern.
Glad you stuck it out. Congrats
I am not fond of the floaters.
Kiss your wife for me. She gave you the motivation to go, that is so much!
Congratulations.
Way to hang in and see it through. The one's you work for are the ones you remember the most
Congratulations! It can happen quickly, and that can be on the first day, or the last day. Way to stick with it!
