I was hopeful that hanging out with you would make me a successful turkey hunter. Instead the only significant impact has been an uptick in my spending. Maybe a marginal improvement in my hunting prowess.
We still have a week in June for redemption but I am not optimistic. Top secret probation for everyone.
Sometimes it's the student and not the teacher.

. In all honesty, push forward. Persistence wins more often than not. Good luck and have fun.
Product of poor training.
Enjoy the hunt.

Remember when John Kerry said he threw his Vietnam medals over the White House fence? I am thinking of throwing my OG patches over a barbed wire fence. Stupid turkeys. Not you all...you are not stupid.
I don't think you should be blaming us. We can only do so much and you need to put forth the effort to learn. It's very apparent that you haven't been watching enough YouTube videos and TV hunting shows. ;D
Michigan is about to receive a significant warming trend. I believe you'll see an uptick in gobbling activity when that arrives.
Plain to see you haven't been listening and haven't learned the most important lesson of turkey hunting ... Patience ;) . Stick with it and good luck :OGturkeyhead:
Do you even trumpet, you have to show some commitment
Maybe you are a slow learner. It will all come together. Trust us!

I wholly agree with this. Recently, I was pondering back on how many of my successful hunts and patience was the one ingredient that made the difference. Such an obvious thing that we all know. Yet somehow I still manage to forget that more times than not.

Around here, I have been on top secret probation most of my married life. Unless there is double top secret probation, I will assume my situation will remain the same. ;D
My first observation is that no matter how much your spending habits have increased, you should obviously be spending more. Your prowess is directly correlated to how many expensive turkey calls you have. At the very least, you should have learned THAT around here!
Another part of the problem you are having is likely due to the fact that you can ask for advice from ten different OG members, and you will get ten different opinions on how to do it! The first step is to separate us "charlatans" from the real "experts". Good luck with that! :angel9:
...In summary, just keep after it! Sometimes you have to just sort through a bunch of smart turkeys until you find a dumb one! :newmascot:
Sometimes you just have to know when to fold them and go to the grocery store and buy you a turkey... But in all fairness your on the right track in killing a gobbler, look at this way your on the BEST forum and we all have your BACK...
I have some questions....
Have you watched all the youtube videos on turkey hunting?
Have you patterned your gun out to 90 yards with the proper TSS loads and super turkey chokes?
Is your camouflage the correct color?
Do you turkey decoys have a good motor that spins them in a realistic fashion?
Is the electronic scope on your gun facing the correct direction?
Have you successfully mastered the mating scream turkey call on mouth calls, pot calls, and box calls?
Have you successfully mastered the owl hooters, such that you can drive down the road and get multple gooble responses in crowded areas?
I agree with Gobblenut. Better hunting experiences through aggressive spending.

I confess that I am sick of turkey and other hunting videos. Nauseated actually but Ill try a couple more.
My TSS pattern at 30 yds is 38.562 inches so I am projecting a 3 yard plus pattern at 90 yards. Perfect since I still can't get a gobbler within 80.
I don't use a scope since I don't want my shots to be limited to what I can see.
I am screaming as loud as possible when I see the birds running, sometimes flying away.
I assure you that I have mastered the technique I developed, on my own, of hanging out the truck window at 10mph and hooting while steering with my foot. I have had pretty good results and and am up to 6 responses per gallon. Some of them are from real turkeys.
Altogether, I am doing my best with the obviously inadequate instruction you have been providing.
Glad we could be of assistance ;D
The problem, as I see it is:
You don't know what you don't know until you know that you don't know enough to know what you need to know and don't know enough so you can learn to know what you do and do not need to know. Ya' know?

I actually felt better about things when I was pretty sure I didn't know before I met you all. Then I got to thinking I had learned something but now I am beginning to understand that I don't understand therefore I do (not) know what I do or do not know.

ahhh. I think I understand?! You need to do like tin cup and put your hat on backwards keys in your left pocket change in your right, Hop on one leg in a circle, while doing the foremost mentioned ki ki,cackle, yelp, hoot call!
You gotta remember to not call to loud but make sure you call often with volume. Never use decoys unless you have 6 or 8 . The best call is a loud whine, bubble, jake yelp done on a frank cox trumpet before flydown. Turkeys only respond to bottomland camo late in the evening. And dont forget to use the end of your barrel to scratch the leaves. That always brings them in. Last but not least stay shady in the sun. I learned all this on the OG so I know itll work.
And..... Get yourself a piece of hard rock candy. It's not for eating it's just for looking through.
The only thing that matters on your turkey vest is the quality of the butt cushion.

I bet both of these guys could kill a turkey!

Took me 5 Long Years to kill my 1st Turkey. Hang in there .
You can kill'em?
If you kill a turkey with your ol shotgun, but then feel compelled to add a minimum of three turkey specific shotguns to your arsenal to kill em extra, you've been "OG'd".

I am not saying if I did or did not, but if I did her name rhymes with Shmamala Shmarris.
Stick around, keep tuning in and stick with it. When you connect.... And you will connect! We'll be here for the celebration ;D

Oh, it gets worse. Wait until you kill your first one or two. Then you think to yourself "I got this, I am a sure enough turkey killer" and "I will just do it like this from here on out" and then these bird brained nincomgobblers will humble you all over again. Self doubt and second guessing are as certain with turkey hunting as chasing purty wimin.
Just get Ferocious for less than most any call you will find here. With more turkey in it than you need. Ferocious hunters harvesting all over the country these days.

Hanging out with and taking advise from OG veterans will be good only as far as it goes. It MAY reduce your learning curve, but only reduce. Don't whine. Pre-season...did you find areas with birds? If not you didn't pay attention to the number one rule of turkey hunting. HUNT WHERE THERE ARE TURKEYS. As far as spending a lot of money...yes, many spend a lot. But if you only bought two or three calls and spent the time to learn using them you're good to go. There are only a thousand YouTube videos out there to teach you to call. Good luck...and concentrate on the number one rule in the future.

LOL - yep, at that point you for sure have caught the sickness.
G8rvet said it best! If you think it's a tough struggle for that first bird, just wait! I killed a spring bird every year from the time I was 12 till I was 39. In that time I also killed birds in Texas, South Dakota, and Florida. Some years I struggled hard for one but it always happened. Then I went 2 years without killing a bird. One of those years I can't even really say I worked a bird! You really start to wonder if you ever were any good or just had plenty of birds to hunt and luck to go with it! I actually got so frustrated that even after years of success I stepped away from the game for a while because I was putting too much importance on killing a bird and not enough just enjoying the spring woods. Sometimes you have to remind yourself that this is supposed to be fun. If you bag a bird great. If not, well hell you're still out there seeing things lots of people never see and walking around in the woods. Lots of people aren't able to do that any more due to age and injuries and would gladly take a bad day in the woods over what they deal with every day
Send check or money order to my address and I'll tell you all you need to know ....

Sounds like you do not have the patience needed to learn to hunt turkeys and eventually be successful in bagging a gobbler.
Maybe you should take up darts.
IMO. Find one lonely, and in the right mood. My recipe for success.
You can PM me anytime and i will help you with all your needs and spend your money for you ... Remember again we all have your OG back ...
Surprisingly, I just don't see enough folks touting the loud "mehhh" sound used on turkeys just like all the deer videos when those birds are running away from you like you said. It absolutely works 100% .001% of the time!
You have to stop hunting all those Democrat turkeys, all those tom's identify as hens. Had one of those show up yesterday myself.

Altogether, I am doing my best with the obviously inadequate instruction you have been providing.
Well... Sometimes it is the teacher... Sometimes it is the student. Sometimes it is both....
I happen to be a self-described expert (or at least self-identified)....
It has taken me years to aquire and put to use all the knowledge I have gained...
For instance I have learned:
That while turkeys are incapable of flying, they still nest in trees.
Hunters walking in the turkey woods are invisible to turkeys as long as those hunters are wearing camouflage and using a turkey call.
Turkeys cannot hear human voices as long as you intermingle a turkey call with those voices.
Turkeys are very friendly with owls and crows (which is why they gobble at them)
Turkeys have an excellent sense of smell, but horrible eyesight and hearing... (Scent-blocking clothing is of utmost importance for turkey hunting)
I have much more of this useful information as well!

This is why I buy "Hen in Heat" scent & "Field Corn" cover scent by the quart....use to buy it by the gallon, but it gets stale if it sets from one year to the next.
Maybe we are going about this all wrong. You say we haven't helped you. Maybe you haven't been paying attention, because were not presenting or teaching it in the best way. So, let's go old school.....like back to VanHalen, maybe we can have sir diealot dress up in a hot outfit with his sunglasses and he can be our HOT FOR TEACHER! Would you pay attention to the teacher then???
