Last week a fellow I'd consider one of my best friends, and the only man I turkey hunt with, was shot by another hunter. He was shot at somewhere around 35yds with 1.75oz of LongBeard #5s. When he realized what was happening he lifted his shoulder to protect his head and rolled onto his side. Most of the load caught him in that shoulder and on that side. By grace alone he's somehow okay. During the event his box call took about six pellets. Now here's where the callmaker comes in. Through the years I've become good friends with Anthony Ellis. So I go to the mailbox the other afternoon and see I've got a package from him. When I open it there's this heart pine and osage box call he's made with a note that it's for my buddy. There ain't many folks would go out of their way to do something like that and I know it'll mean the world to him. All that to say, there's some awfully fine folks involved in this sport we all love and Anthony is one of our finest. Safe hunting.

Tip of the hat. Glad your friend is on the mend.
Glad your friend is doing well... Anthony is an outstanding person and a fine call builder who cares about others ...
Anthony is a very good man. Some of you may have read about what Anthony did for a fellow member and friend of mine. Not going into anymore details other than I called Anthony , wanted to get him to make my friend a trumpet and I would pay for it. A week later a trumpet showed up in my mailbox. I called to pay Anthony and he refused saying he was happy to gift it. Now my friend , Anthony and myself talk regularly. I have drove 10 hours to visit him at his shop. Anthony Ellis is a man I am proud to call a friend.
Best wishes for your friend's recovery. I have no doubts this wasn't a gesture for publicity, but kudos to Anthony for leading by example. Great story, and a nice reminder of the good that exists in this world.
Great to hear your buddy is doing well.
SOLID move by Mr. Ellis !!!!!!!
I saw your friend's post on FB, glad he survived. Mr. Ellis sounds like a stand up gentleman.
Man, this is awesome. I'm glad to read this in the time we currently live in. We still have great people, especially around here, in our world. This story absolutely gives me chill bumps from head to toe!!! Please let your friend know that we're thinking about him and praying for him as well.
Have a good one, Bo

Very nice gesture there!! There are some great folks on this site!!
That buddy of mine is obsessed with Model 12 Winchesters. I told him last night I was going to go hunt with a hundred year old piece of nickel steel in his honor. This morning before the sun ever crested the ridge...(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230420/68a57d1dca397470586ddf4223c8c2d1.jpg)

Amazing pic! I have several 12's in the safe from my grandfather and I really want to do the same with his old 16ga full choke.
I had heard about your friend and seen pics of his call somewhere else. Glad he's doing well and great gesture by Mr. Ellis. Thank you for sharing that's a great story.
Solid move by AGE.

It did. We both live in the mountains, but he's always hunted a good bit early season down east.

First of all, glad your friend is doing OK.
It's really something to see how the community on this site and around turkeys in general is for the most part. Excellent looking call with a lot of meaning from friends behind it. It's bound to be blessed with some good mojo, hope your friend is able to get back in the woods with you and try it out.
Chet,
Beautiful picture...Fine looking Mod 12 & that gobbler is a dandy, too...
Awesome way to start you day...

I'm sorry to hear he is your friend and glad he is alive. Sending prayers for strength and healing to all involved. I believe I saw the photo of this gentleman on FB. Scary Shtuff!
Thank you to the (great person) call maker for this great gesture.
Get Well to your friend. :cross2:
Anthony is a great guy, very polite and gracious to his customers. I am not at all surprised to hear it was him that did this. I just say the pictures of your friend two or three days ago, he is very lucky, glad to hear he will be alright.
A very good friend of mines son was shot in the face and neck several years ago by his little brother on a youth hunt, he almost died, it is something I cringe to hear about whenever it happens.
Hope your buddy heals well.
Whoever pulled that trigger mistaking a person for a gobbler should never be able to buy a hunting license again!!!
It's time this stupidity comes with real consequences
