Title: TFT Wild Turkey Science Podcast
Post by: Paulmyr on April 06, 2023, 04:25:08 PM
Anybody listening to these? Listened  to all 8 episodes on a long road trip yesterday. Some very good info. These episodes delve into the recent declines in wild turkey populations in many states and predators and how and when predator control can be most beneficial to wild turkey numbers. Very interesting stuff. I highly recommend listening to these.

I've listened to all of them and think the conversations have been great. Enjoy hearing all of the different studies and hypotheses. Think a lot of folks want to look at all of this as black and white and that show has done a great job of showing the gray. I also believe the folks involved genuinely care about the resource, both as scientists and hunters. Good stuff.

I think the fact that the hosts are biologist and come to the table with an open mind  doesn't limit the conversation to the black and white as you describe. They are better informed and ask questions that maybe overlooked by some of your typical podcast hosts and the resulting conversation is extremely informative if not eye opening.

I especially enjoyed the 1st episode with Dr Craig Harper. That man is a wealth of turkey biology/management knowledge.

I've been listening and really enjoy them. Good stuff for turkey nerds and wannabe wildlife biologists.

I dig it!
I think many on here would benefit greatly from listening to it.. including some of this forums has-beens and armchair quarterbacks.

I have watched these and believe they are raising great questions and looking at a lot of angles for the turkey decline- it's great to get quality feedback from biologists and research projects regularly lets me know they are working hard to find answers and are sharing these answers - the good and the bad- I think it's a positive step and they are carting us along with them by sharing the results so often!! Great podcast

I listen to the Wild Turkey Science podcast. It's a couple of biologists and guests. It's good. A lot of talk about habitat and of course potential causes for population declines.

I was amazed at some of the stats they threw out about good nesting a brood rearing habitat and how little there was. I think they stated how in a study it was like 7 percent and produced like 40 percent of the successful nest but 10 percent of nests were lost due to mowing. It's all jumbled together as I listened to them one after another. I'll have to take some time and listen to them individually and let them sink in before moving on to the next.

I've been listening and also contacted my state biologists asking them to tune in to the podcast. Hopefully, they will consider learning something...
