Title: Trouble sleeping
Post by: Notsoyoungturk on March 29, 2023, 02:38:21 PM
Is it just me or are you like a kid on Christmas Eve the night before opening day?  I am 60 years old and have done this all my life, but I still get this way the night before duck and turkey season opens.  If I don't take something to help me sleep, I will be awake, staring at the ceiling, going over all my plans for the morning and making sure I don't oversleep my alarm.  If you are the excited kid, what is your trick to calm down and sleep.  For me, it is a big hamburger or steak, a local beer and some Advil pm.  Even then, I always wake up before may alarm.

Same here, 1,000 times worse if I put one to bed the evening before.

Doesn't take long before early rises and late to bed catches up with you though, by day 5 or 6, I'm asleep before the head hits the pillow.

I'm like that from about the first of December until the day season goes out in may. Can't focus, playing with calls all hours of the day up until the night, wake up early dreaming of gobblers, day dream all day at work and get on here to talk with you guys.

I am lucky if I sleep for an hour the night before. I wish they would let me camp out there but I am not allowed to. It would make that second night great because I am sure I would just conk out. I am just afraid some bear would think my snoring is a mating call and violate me in my sleep.

Same here as well. I probably didn't sleep an hour all night long. I'm like this even if it's not opening day.

I am fortunate, I am a awesome sleeper. I will most likely take some bourbon just to make sure.

I sleep like a rock until my toms start to gobble at 4:45 am. I live with Easterns every day. No big deal, but I will be ready when the bell rings.

This is the exact reason I get my best sleep in the turkey woods.

It's one of the best feelings there is. Something about knowing tomorrow brings another spring chasing these great birds just has a way of keeping a turkey hunter flush with anticipation of the game to come.

We're about a month out here but the mornings are already getting a bit of that feeling. Good luck boys.
