Title: Pellet stoves?
Post by: bad0351 on June 26, 2011, 05:14:37 PM
Anyone here heating with a pellet stove?
We just bit the bullet and purchased one because I just had the oil tank filled to the tune of ANOTHER500.00 bucks....uggghhh :(

I think it may be the best money we have spent in a long time!

i have a harmon now for five years,it does a pretty good job.our house isn`t real big, about 1400 square feet.price of pellets were about 199 a ton  the first year  i bought them , last year i paid 240.i don`t know what kind of stove your getting but do yourself a favor and burn good hardwood pellets less ash and more heat.

I bought a Harmon this year and I`m glad I did. I`ve tried several brands and the best ones IMO were the barefoot pellets. Burn real hot with not alot of ash. I got the OBAMA rebate also!

We bought a Quadra Fire Mt Vernon insert for the fireplace and love it. Bought it from Energy Savers in Meredith 3 years ago, got 1/3 the price back in tax credits. We burned 4 tons ($800) of pellets from end of October to mid April as our primary source of heat with oil as a backup. You set the thermostat on the wall and forget it, just like oil. It's great when the oil truck comes in January after a month and the bill is $150. It has 12 volt battery back up if the power goes out. My buddy has had the same model as a free stander for 4 years and both have been trouble free.

Tractor supply has a pre season sale on now. If you order pellets now you save 25 % on a ton.
