Maybe our birds will make a comeback. I miss the days when early morning gobbles were commonly heard on public lands

In the words of the late ,great Earl Mickel, you can be the best caller, have the best calls made, and the best guns, but if they are not there you want kill them.

Got to really do your homework to get a bird here now. Here`s a song- Where did all the turkey hunters go?
They were there when it was easier pickings!

From what I have witnessed, don't forget the #2 most important tip!  Corn and lots of it!  (Skill and ethics optional).

I am a new Turkey hunter appreciate the tip.

This spring I am fired up about bagging a turkey and I just scouted the frozen food section of my grocery store. I set up a couple trail cams and have some pics of birds moving early mornings. I have been trying to shock gobble with a variety of sounds morning, noon and night- to no avail. They are just silent, but I do have pics of them on the camera. I made a late evening trip and verified EXACTLY where they roost. It was kinda cool, they were all on display, lined up. Im pretty sure I can put my blind up in the produce section and brush it in with some lettuce. It's only a 20 yard shot to where I expect to pull the trigger on my bird....????

Not really. If there are no birds you can sit 12 hours a day and never kill one. Like I already said , number 1 is having birds. Over and out.

I know some of these comments were made tongue in cheek but honestly; it's very important to have birds to hunt. For some reason; I'm not hearing any this year. Our season opens in a week and by this time last year, I was listening to at least one nearly every morning (killing one proved to be a different story). This year, I have heard exactly 2 birds and one of those kind of sounded like he choked out a single gobble. The other seemed to act like we all hope one will..he liked to hear himself and wasn't shy about it. Maybe nobody else will find him this week and I can hook up with him Saturday.

Carry enough gun. So if you get a shot you can close the deal.

Just cause you aren't hearing gobbling don't mean they aren't there. Some of the biggest birds i've ever killed never said a word on the limb or the ground but found me cause they were curious and I was PATIENT!

Everybody loves a turkey to gobble their head off while working in but they all can't be t.v. hunts....

Also a little known fact that turkeys can walk, run, and fly....just cause they aren't there today don't mean they won't be there tomorrow.

Thanks for the tip lol. I have been turkey hunting 43 years and my comment stands. I made a little funny that has truth and now I have professional turkey hunters educating me now. My resume is pretty long. Again this post was done jokingly. Some jump to correct my post by throwing in all these scenarios. If you know about the turkey population issues , that are found all over the place , then you would know that places that held piles of birds for the most part do not anymore. Glad they can walk , fly and run. You taught me something lol. . Wow , I always thought that if turkeys didn't gobble then they were not there. Man , you have given me a wealth of knowledge tonight. I will set up in a Walmart parking lot in the morning and be PATIENT and just know that a turkey will walk , fly or run to me at some point.

Everybody on here knows the current crappy state of turkeys in practically every state in the country. It's not new and it ain't getting better anytime soon! I've found it best to just to be positive and optimistic....being negative and dejected I can promise won't lead to any success. Go try that walmart parking lot, the next hot spot!? Good luck

Well at least I have been able to kill 2 birds of my 3 bird Ms limit so far. Heading to Kentucky , Missouri and Texas. So I will be ok.
The post I started was to be funny but it goes over some peoples head. I'm use to it because the internet is full of people who have little sense of humor or takes everything they read seriously. Anyway , don't take what I posted so seriously because I'm just ribbing you in good fun. I see you are in Arkansa. I have hunted that State and I will say the country there is beautiful. Looks like you would have birds everywhere but the part of the state I hunted was pretty lackluster for birds. The guys there verified that the place had plenty of birds 10 years ago but it's like the birds went extinct in the last 6 or 7 years. You can still kill a few birds there but they are few in between.
Good luck to you this season and I still say you have to have birds to kill one. It's common sense and common math  ;D.

There is no secret to killing turkeys but time and turkeys . And it takes both.... You'll never kill one without both. The more the merrier. The people who kill the most have the most , and the people who kill the least either have  the least or intentionally don't . Just reality.... No secrets .

Maybe some of these guys will read what you posted and get it. Apparently some don't get my post. I think some people never read through and jump right in posting without getting the full concept.
