Title: What threads are weaver mount screws?

Need to get an 1187 drilled and tapped..... Just wondered what those little buggers are?

for some odd reason size 6-48 thread became a standard back in the olden days. 8-40 size thread is a better way to go and some manufacturers have started using the beefier screw size.you wont find the screws or taps at the local hardware stores. best bet is to order the taps from natchez shooters and screws from numrich gunparts.

You'll have to modify the base if you move to  8-40.  The heads will be larger.

I think 8-40 would be better, but the smaller screws seem to hold with loctite.
