looking to buy a trough call before turkey season this year and i know there are MANY talented call makers out there but if you were to buy a trough call who would you have build it?????
One of the very best is Jim Chamberlin. He's on Facebook
I have a Jim Chamberlin and really like it. I want to buy another but from Nathan Wolfe, he owns Silver Wolfe Game Calls. A couple of his trough calls placed in Nashville, I forgot where at but feel he did get first on one. The one I ran at Nashville was excellent.
Ford Mangum, if he is still making them.
I have troughs from 4-5 guys, Ryan Hershberger think his name is and Ford Mangums are really good. I think my favorite is Scott Ashburn on here Mastevt, his are beautiful and play and they are priced right, I can't recommend him enough for pots, troughs, strikers are real good as well. You can check him out on Facebook Scott Ashburn.

Bob Fulcher and Nathan Taylor make some really good ones ...
I have a couple of Scott's. They are players, particularly green slate and cherry.
Pic for reference
Here's some videos so you guys can hear them. These are just a few I've made

Best is relative. Only you can decide what's the best for you. For me it's Knockout Call rock trough.
I do not have a ton of experience with them but just how well Nathan Taylor treated me when I looked at one of his calls made me buy from him. The background story:
Trough Call Cedar and Green Slate made by Higher Calling Custom Turkey Calls by Nathan Taylor A little story about Nathan, I met him last August at the Northeast Call Makers Summit and he was selling these calls and others, I walked up to him and told him I did not have the money to get the call but I would like to know how you play them as I had never seen one before. A lot of times when I have told people that I did not have the money but I was interested in something they would either blow me off or tell me to come back when I had the money, Nathan did not do that, he took the time to talk with me and show me a couple of ways to run the call and was very friendly about it the entire time. That is why I chose to buy my first trough call from him, I liked him and liked the way he treated a customer that he knew was not going to buy from him at that time. He got my respect. I really like the call by the way, very easy to play.

Nice looking trough. I bought a beautiful canarywood pot call from Nathan at Nashville this year. Very nice call.
Another vote for Scott. Picked up a blue mahoe slate/glass last year and it is first call out of the vest now.
