What recommendations do y'all have for Turkey hunting boots. I have read that some like Crispi's but I have never seen them. I have been wearing Danner tall snake boots the last few years. Want to find another pair of comfortable boots. I do a lot of walking.
Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Have a good one, Bo

I have a pair of the Lacrosse Venoms. They are very comfortable and a little less pricey than some of the others. They have held up well during turkey and deer bow season.
I wear Lowa's and would buy them again. My brother likes Crispi's.
I've been wearing L L Bean Maine hunting shoes. Most comfortable boot I've ever worn. Stay away from Irish setter vaportreks. They leak and wear out after 1 season.
I wore Bean's for about 15 years and wore out three-four pairs, loved them. I switched to Grange because I didn't want to keep shipping them back and I could buy the Grange at the local feed store. I wish I were still in the Bean's.
Danner pronghorn Is my go to .
Hanwag Tatra II boots and a pair of Kennetrek gaiters.
Not sure what size you wear but I have these for sale or trade.

Once you get to the Lowa, Crispi, Zamberlin... Realm of boots you are in a different class than Danner, Rocky, and such. I wore Danner for years and the last couple of pairs were not all that great so I tried Crispi. Have two pairs now and not a complaint. Just make sure you get a model that is waterproof. On a side note I'm looking at Zamberlin for the next pair just to try something different.
I got a couple of pair of Muck boots and some Danner Sharptail snake boots, but most mornings I roll with LL Bean 16" boots. They are comfortable, lightweight and don't leak.
Danner 10 inch Sharptail Zip-up boots. Goretex, comfortable and come in wide widths.....
Ive been wearing Lowa camino's, keep the leather waxed and ive had no issues with water when wearing gators, I also have 2 pair and rotate them.

I've got about 4 pairs of Zamberlans. They fit my feet really well and are great quality boots.

I've been using a pair of Lacrosse Alpha Burleys for over ten years. They've finally given up the ghost so will need a new pair. I definitely got my money's worth.
Depends on where I am hunting on what I wear. In the swampy bottoms I wear Lacrosse knee boots because of how much water I have to cross. I would stay away from the camo ones. As they run on things the camo comes off and turn white in those areas. I have a pair of gortex North Face hikers I wear in regular wooded areas. Both have served me well in different terrain.
I have been wearing Meindls had great luck with them
My friend got me hooked on the Le Chameau boots. I have the the Vierzonord and love them. They recently came out with a lace up boot that I hear is great, the Chameau lite Lcx 10 inch. And as always everything Chameau is waterproof. I just switched to them after wearing out a pair of Lowa boots (took 15 years).
I've been wearing a set of Danner Grouse. More exoensive than the pronghorns and sharptails, but worth every penny so far.

I've used Danner Pronghorns for several years and love how light and comfortable they are but I only get 2-3 years out of a pair at the most. I just bought a pair of Crispi Wild Rocks that are almost twice the cost. Hopefully they hold up a little longer. I haven't used them yet so I can't really comment yet but they do seem comfortable and well made out of the box. I only wear knee-highs if I absolutely have to and have a pair of Cabela's brand for that and they have held up well for many years but I don't use them a ton.
I love my Danner Pronghorns. This will be my third year and I use them for both turkey and deer.

I used mine for turkey and deer as well. They worked great for about a year and then started leaking slowly and by the end of year 2 they had multiple tears in them from normal use.
That have a certain model Zamberlan on sale at Midway. I have worn vasque breeze, Lowa renegade, Crispi Wyoming and have not had a problem yet! Crispi are my favorite just take awhile to break in the others are right out of box and never had wet feet. I bought some Kenetrek Mountain boots uninsulated at Christmas and so far so good just not broken in yet they recommend 50 miles on flat
ground.

Many folks prefer a high rubber boot for crossing creeks on the way to the spot. Lots of places, these aren't as necessary. Think a rubber one is what you'll benefit from?

Agree on the Vaportreks. Mine last less than 2 seasons. Sides ripped out on both.

X2 here. I was a big Irish Setter fan until they switched to their own waterproof system, not Goretex. Here's my thoughts/opinion. If they ain't Goretex, they WILL leak. I went to Danner Sharptail Goretex. Back to dry feet.....
I wear Chippewa snake boot, a cheap pair of pvc hip waders, or just got a pair of lacrosse rubber snake proof boots all with crocs inserts and depending on where I'm hunting depends on what boot I'm going to wear. But being in Florida swamps the chance of stepping on a copperrattlemoccasin is very high so I like some kind of protection. The chippewa's I keep heavy waxed for water resistance.

Another disappointed in the vaportreks. Not that expensive as far as waterproof boots go but I was hoping to get more than one season out of them for the price. Don't think I had dry feet with them even right out of the box.

That's not good. I don't have any tears, BUT I do have issues with water getting through. I have never had luck with that on any boots I have owned though. I should really go to rubber boots for turkey, but I don't want to walk up and down the hills with them.
I had a pair of Danner Pronghorns that weren't comfortable to me so I gave them to a cousin that had a pair and loved them. I think they just didn't fit me right as lots of people rave on them, at least the older models. I went to Crispi Wyoming's and love them for turkey and deer hunting. I also bought a pair of Crispi Idaho's that are comfortable too. Both of these have a wider toe box so the regular width works for me. I picked up a pair of Crispi Thor's thinking they would be lightweight for turkey but they fit me more snug but are comfortable. (My son-in-law has the Thor's and loves them. He has a narrow foot.)
The big thing is finding a boot that fits your feet, feel comfortable in the store or at your house and have a full Gortex bootie if going with that style boot. Many of the lower priced boots only have a Gortex upper that is welded to the sole.
Good luck with your search.
Out of the boots I tried on, my feet liked the Lowa Renegades the best. Definitely been one of my favorite boots.

Being in Florida i now wear lacrosse snake books
Had rockys and Irish setters. Both left my feet wet just from walking in tall grass. Plenty of things that bite or crawl on you. So the added length and protection. Is great. Also you can tuck a sticker in the top of your boot when set up.

I decided that I wanted to move into the top echelon of boots a few years back and bought a pair of Nevadas by Crispi. I could not belive that the first time I wore them hunting that the left boot leaked along the side. I had got them from Black Ovis and returned for them to test and of course they said they didn't leak. I them contacted Crispi who said that it was the fault of the gore-tex and to contact Gore-tex. I did that and they could only look at them if I had the original sales receipt. So now they are dry weather boots only for close to $400 boots. Just save all receipts and BEWARE!
I wear Crispis or lacrosse la grange depending on how much water is in the area. The lacrosse's had a hole after only a year but they are decent. I will try Lite boots next.
LaCrosse made nice boot specifically for Bass Pro a few years back that had become my favorite. It was similar to the Alphaburly, but it fit better. Apparently, they've been discontinued. My son has been using Tingleys, and they're so light, I'm going to switch over to them this year. I've worn out all my Danners.

That sucks. Do you have the email from Black Ovis for when you bought them? Would Black Ovis have record of the sale for you?

It seemed that most boots waterproofing would only last a year or 2. 4 years ago I finally switched to a pair of Kenetrek boots and could not be happier. extremely comfortable and still waterproof.
Matt76cmich, don't know if they have that info. and at this stage I don't care. I know the boots leaked because before I sent them to Ovis I put tissues in the boot and held it in water for 15 mins. or so and the tissues were wet. So I really fault Black Ovis. The Crispi boots are quite well made but I do find them heavy for turkey hunting. I just bought a cheap waterproof hiking shoe to try this year and as always snake chaps.
Check out LITE boots, these things are unbelievably light and you can walk all day in them. If you want a rubber type boot , I highly recommend them. Each boot weighs around 13 ounces. I didn't think there was anything in the box when mine arrived . I always wear rubber boots so they work well for me.
LL Bean Maine hunting boot, Lowa's, or Muck's based on the weather and area i'm hunting in.
Depends on your foot and where/how you hunt. Wide, narrow, etc. My foot is very wide. I like Hanwag Alaska and Lowa Tibet in hikers. Other models by both manufacturers are too narrow for me. I also don't hunt around snakes. Some tolerate rubber boots well but I don't like walking in them unless I have to. Lots of great choices.
Had a pheasant hunting guide in SD swear by the Kenetreks. He said they outlasted anything he tried. Anyone have any experience with them? Thanks
Depending on my situation of where I am hunting, it is either Lacrosse knee boots, Lacrosse Snake boots, or my Kenetreks. They all do the job are tough and keep my feet in good shape.
A lot of good boots out there but Danner Recurve's are by far my favorite for stomping down large tracts of land.
These are the Danners I'm trying this year. They are rear zip, I want to avoid laces. They are real comfortable, easy to get on and come in Wide with. Yes, they are Goretex, and unusually lightweight, so I am hoping no leaks...be safe, good luck this spring...
Made In USA Red Wing#2408 (steel toe)
I receive a work shoe voucher once a year. Figure if my Red Wings are comfortable enough for a 12 hour shift on concrete going up&down stairs & lugging heavy things over my shoulder than it would be OK to wear an old school all leather light weight work boot for Turkey hunting.
The seller has a silicone dip tank, I have them dipped 2 weeks before my opener and wear Kenetrek gaitors.
Works for me-YMMV

I belive so. I ordered the same size I would for any of my shoes or work boots. I normally wear a wool sock like darn toughs (thickness of socks dependent of temps).

Thanks. I think the lowas are my next try. Kenny's although a very nice boot were just to stiff.
I wear the Muck Wetland Pro snake boots. They are a little on the heavy side but I don't mind with all the Copperheads in the area I hunt.

love my Mucks. Shot a nice 8pt last fall trip over an antler and punctured a boot. Guess I got a little excited! They weren't the snake model though.
I wear/wore crispi for a few years. Got the Nevada's I believe they are a little heavy and still waterproof after several years However the rand and the bottom are starting to separate. Got a pair of valdres and they leaked pretty quick sent them back and got a new pair. They are still waterproof but again the rand is almost completely gone and there is now uncovered stitching across the toe so they will leak before long.
I'm not real happy about how the crispi's hold up.
This year I got a pair of zamberlain and they fit my feet great and are holding up so far. They are a beast to break in. Mine are still pretty stiff and I've probably been wearing them off and on since thanksgiving.
If anyone is looking to buy crispi or zamberlan they typically have them 20% off for Black Friday. That's is when I have bought all mine.
Lacrosse Alpha Burleys. I wore my first pair out after fifteen years or so, just picked up a new pair on sale.

Picked a pair of Lowa Renegades up today. Wore them for about 2 hours. Pretty comfy. I think they will work. Also replaced my Mucks so I believe I`ll be set. now for a set of gaiters.
Are you even allowed to step foot in the woods nowadays if you're not wearing Crispi's with a pair of gaiters?
I covered close to 75+ miles in the past week with a new pair of vivobarefoot tracker 2 fg's with gaiters from ultimate camo. Everything was holding & crossing in swamps & creek bottoms. Everyday, I was having to do several water & mud crossings up to knee high. Feet never got wet. Feet felt great during & after it was all said & done.
That combo let me fly through some woods with ease & way quieter than any of my, older, clunky boots. Crazy light. Reminded me of moccasins, but waterproof. Stealthy for sure. Just enough hard sole to pad from sharp rocks while still being able to feel every twing. Ankle support was spot on. Kept me from rolling my ankles several times when hustling.
All in all, I'm beyond impressed with the combo. Wasn't so sure how they'd do. They get an A+ from me.
