Title: Pepper wood
Post by: TRKYHTR on June 22, 2011, 07:13:59 PM
Anybody ever turn a piece of Pepper wood. I friend of mine gave me a stump of this wood. He said the rancher paid for his whole ranch from the burls of these trees. He said they use it for dash boards of high class cars. Anyway I turned a piece of it yesterday. I had no idea why they call it pepper wood until I started turning it. It smelled just like pepper. It's going to be a slate call. We'll see how it sounds.

WOW thats gorgeous Joe! I would say to try a scratch box call but that wood is a little too pretty to use for that.

Did you have a sneezing fit while turning it?  :)   I hope it is nice and dry, as your primary surface is end grain.  I've always been afraid to turn end grain due to movement of the wood (warping, checking).  It looks really nice!
