Title: TurtleSkin Snake Gaiter / Glenda Green Review
Post by: aclawrence on February 01, 2023, 04:01:36 PM
Here is a review of my TurtleSkin snake gaiters and some modifications I had done to them by Mrs. Glenda Green. I've been wearing these for the last five turkey seasons. Sorry for the terrible section in the middle where I had to wrestle with the tripod lol. Hope y'all enjoy.

I took mine to Unicoi and left them with her after you sent a pic of yours.  She covered them in old bottomland.  I had them back in just over a week.  Glenda does a fantastic job.

I immediately gave your video a like when you said, "before some of y'all get your panties in a wad and start crying fanboy and Pinhotti, blah, blah, blah... quit with that crap".  :TooFunny:

Great review as well. I've been wearing some other gators and been looking at the Turtle Skins for a while so it helps me know what I would getting into with those.

I really enjoyed you sharing the modifications to your gators.  Glenda is one awesome lady... She made modifications to one of her satchels for me and we added a claw sling and hookup for her short box and long box holster on the shoulder strap. If anyone wants to see pictures of her modifications to the satchel pm message me with your cell number.  Her products are USA made ...

Love my turtleskins.  Invaluable in the early season chasing bears in the mountains and gobblers in the spring.  Worth every penny.

I see I have an add on the beginning of my video now. Not sure how that happened. I probably can adjust the settings on my laptop. I recorded the video on my phone and uploaded from my phone so I just went with it. I guess I'll be getting rich soon

This will be my first spring wearing turtle skin snake gaiters.  Its going to be nice retiring the hot snake boots.

I have a pair of turtle skins and wear them religiously when out and about. Now I'm concerned that one is able to sew on them. If a sewing needle can penetrate the material then it would make me wonder about their effectiveness.

I've thought about that to. They're supposed to be tested against live rattlesnakes. Also that sewing need is a sharp piece of steel and it takes a heavy duty sewing machine to do it. My daughter has a nice $600 sewing machine but it won't sew material this heavy duty. Also the gaiters are usually never tight against my leg so the snake would have to penetrate the gaiter and then the pants and press all the way into your skin. Hope that helps you feel better. What I worry about is crawling around in the dark or sitting against the tree in the darkness and getting it on the hand. I usually try to shine my little red headlamp around the tree before I get too comfortable.

Great review! I've always worn the snake boots but this looks like another good option. Thanks for the review.

One point I failed to make for gaiters is that I can let my wife wear them if we go out together since her eyes are not as in tune with nature as mine.

Never could bring myself to worry enough to wear them and I live as far south as you can get.

How many of y'all have actually been struck or know someone who has?

One of my friends got bit by a copperhead in my hunting area. He was actually standing around his truck and I believe he had his shoes off or had sandals on.  That's the only firsthand account I know. I've stepped over one timber rattler and almost on top of another. Luckily the temperature was pretty cool on the second and it was pretty docile.

I was struck by a copperhead in the right shin back in 2012 at Donnelley WMA in SC, scouting for a bow hunt.  I was wearing snake boots and all end well.  I hope it never happens again, but I spend a good deal of time in the woods where the path isn't always clear.  Stepped near and over a few rattlin snakes, they are usually pretty easy going.

Only been in one accident where I needed my seatbelt, but still where it too.

ACLawrence, thanks again for the video and post, I sent my turtle skins to Ms Glenda yesterday.

I like the mods. I always cut the elastic cord on the bottom in mine, I like that better than the cord to hold them down. I flip the top down and use about a 3/8 wood chisel to punch a hole and zip tie the top down about an inch to where they fit me.
I may have to get Mrs Glenda to mod some for me. I have a couple older pair somewhere if I can find them. I've been wearing Turtle Skins for probably 15-20 years. I'm on my third pair, first pair I broke the zipper beating them off after using them to weed eat. Second pair I wore till until they literally had started to get holes in all the flex points, Third pair this will be my third season with them I believe.

I have been bitten by a water moccasin while turkey hunting. Trust me , it's very expensive and not very fun. I wear snake gaiters or boots now even when it's cold. Live down in SW Miss. better chance of being struck by lightning than being snake bit , but trust me , don't take it for granted that odds are so low. It sucks.

How fast did the pain set in?  We're you alone or able to get out of the woods ok?
