With deer season over (January 2nd) here in NC, it's time to turn my attention to getting ready for turkey season, 8th of April. Started checking gear and noticed I needed a couple of new mouth calls. Put my order in on Friday and had them in the mailbox this morning. Time to break out the pots, box and New tough calls from Scott Ashburn (mastevt) and get busy aggravating the wife (can't get too much practice in Honey!) Hope everyone is taking inventory, practicing and ordering what is needed for another successful spring season. With Unicoi this weekend and NWTF Convention in February, what items are on your radar and what preparations have you made or need to make for Your Spring Season?
I never stop getting ready. Have lots of notes from deer seasons regarding bird sightings. Made a few off season gear purchases, and will be patterning a few guns before the opener. I really enjoy this, (even though it is costly). March and early April will be heavy scouting months. All in all, I will be ready when my season openers approach, no doubt......be safe.
Got some ammo in last week and have started practicing calling. Putting a red dot on a gun today amd will be sighting in soon. Been on the web planning my spring travels for a while already.
Always getting ready and planning after each turkey season for the next season. Playing calls all year and talking turkey 24/7
Got some mouth calls ordered today and also been running a few in the truck I got out of storage. Won't be long in the South! Waiting for some tss to hit the shelves near me so I don't have to pay shipping and I'll pretty much be set on gear.
Going to start doing some scouting around some new areas here soon. Been practicing on the wingbone,
and picked up a new turkey gun for this year i'm itching to get out to pattern.Going to be a great year!
I know where the birds have been in the past years and verified them again during our deer season this fall. On our lease, I will be liming food plots, doing some trimming and prepping for 2023 deer season the next couple of months so scouting will continue. About 3 weeks prior to our opener, scouting will be in high gear to pinpoint exact location of birds, so I know what their travel routes are and have a pretty good idea of their roosting sites.
Working on calls and calling. Entered drawing for my zone. Scouting new and old areas in my zone. Having fun before the fun.
The only preparation I need to make is to lose weight. Too much eggnog and good cheer :santaclaus:
I'm planning a big trip this spring so I've been preparing since May last year. Lol. Currently in several state draws and buying licenses from the ones I can now. Fingers crossed on the draws but I think I'll be fine.
So basically I've been looking at online maps and I did buy some new decoys from that Rogers sale and a few clothing items.
Is it April yet??!! :turkey:
