Over the years I've mostly been a pot call guy. I've recently got into boxes more and would like to add a new short and long box at Unicoi. I was thinking a long box from Marlin or Mann. Short box from Mann, Mckammey or Dawkins. I know TJ will come up but I got a call from him last year and have a paddle on order. Any suggestions/guidance will be appreciated I plan on playing as much as possible while I'm there.
From the options you gave, Marlin's long box and McKamey shortbox. Check out Steve Brown's calls if he is there.

Good, solid choices you're considering !!!
I've never seen a bad Marlin or Mann.....long OR short box. Darrin's craftsmanship and tuning can't be argued with. Nor McKamey's.
I guess the BEST part about Unicoi is that you can play 'em all and let your ear do the shopping.
One of THE best long boxes out there won't be at Unicoi................ Mr. Ernie Fetters.
Harwell or Mann
The makers you mention are elite craftsman and you certainly can't go wrong with a box from any of them. Jeff Mc Kamey really delivered with this beautiful black limba short box. Its really as good as it gets.

Lamar box is another one to consider alone with the others mention
Play ever one you can, and buy the one that sounds the best to you, may not be any of the ones you named.
Dont wanna hijack this thread but will Lamar William's be there unicoi
I have a long box from Marlin and it is outstanding! You should definitely try one of his for sure! I also have two of his short fiddle boxes and they are killers. I don't go in the woods without his long box and one of his short boxes.

Yes.
So will Ralph Snodgrass and Mike Lapp.
You know, of course Ol Bob is right. The beauty of going to Unicoi is your ability to pick and choose. I wouldn't get too focused on "brand" but rather consider an individual call. I have boxes from relative unknowns that blow doors. Every table there will have its gems. And ultimately, have fun, because it's always about the journey, not the outcome. And to you guys going, post some of your finds!
