Post by: Greg Massey on December 17, 2022, 12:01:00 PM
Who has one and how do you like it overall?  What do you think of the pitch and tones of the acrylic etc .. Sound ....  Who builds a good acrylic trumpet?  Post a picture of your acrylic trumpets.

I have a Misfire black acrylic trumpet that is easy to play and has excellent tone. It makes crisp hen talk and quickly rolls over. The call can play both softly or loud. I highly recommend that caller.

I have one from Anthony (AGE).  Easy to play and manipulate.   Easy on the eyes as well.

I had Martin Ellenburg make mine.  Mainly because he's made several trumpets out of acrylic.  It runs sharp in a good way.

I like delrin and acrylic bodied calls. I hear a distinct sharpness in them over wood calls.

I also hear a distinct pop or sharpness from my derlin calls. I actually prefer them to wood. Just personal preference. I wish I could get a derlin from all my favorite makers but may never happen as they don't make them or hardly any. Maybe one day. Never ran an acrylic but figure they're similar. I do have derlin and one acrylic mouth piece. To my ears the the acrylic sounds a hair better but may just be me. Really like the weatherproof aspect also.

I don't know how different black linen micarta is but I have a call from Charlie Trotter in this synthetic and it ranks very high on my list of favorite trumpets. It has great tones in my opinion and my turkeys seem to like it.

I hunt with acrylic trumpets and really like the sound. To me, it is crisper on the note. I still hunt woods, but alternate. Just made an acrylic yesterday, my only complaints are the shavings cover my tools and shop, and polishing requires a lot more work.

I don't know if it counts as acrylic. But here is one made of Juma by Dave Hodgkins
