Title: Grounded Impact Vest
Post by: BDeal on May 26, 2022, 12:49:28 PM
Hi All-

I bought the Alps Elite 4.0 this year and I'm not crazy about it. It's ok but the striker pockets suck (they are on this inside of the vest so if you sweat they pick up moisture and I've had multiple strikers fall out). It also fits weird as to get a size that fits the shoulders it's then too big around the waist. Anyway I'm considering buying the grounded impact vest. Does anyone have experience with this vest and if so, can you share your thoughts. Also- anyone wanna buy a very lightly used Alps Elite 4.0?

Thanks!

Two seasons in and I have really enjoyed mine.  Plenty of straps to customize the fit, a  lot of room and very well thought out.  The only criticism is that the straps tend to loosen some.  That being said, I'm not a big guy and, admittedly, carry waaay too much stuff so the weight is most likely contributing to the loosening.

Good to hear! Is the decoy pouch big enough?

Thanks!

I looked at those while I was in Nashville this year.  I didn't buy one because I could milk another season or two out of my old vest but I'm likely going to upgrade next year.

I bought one of the first ones when they came out and just finished my second season with it- great vest with plenty of pockets and room and great seat with strong magnets- it will loosen as mentioned above over the course of a couple days but a tug will tighten back up- only other issue I e had is the buckles tend to hit right at gun shouldering level when I'm sitting position for me and can make a little noise hitting against plastic stock - I'm working on covering it with moleskin or something to dampen that down- I think you will be pleased with the vest I would buy it again!! Good luck!!

Are there any other comments here and are there any other vests I should be considering that have at least 4 pot call pockets?

Thanks!

I was a fan of the Ol Tom Gunslinger vest. It can hold four pot calls, and also has the locator call slots with attachments. The seat pad isn't super thick, but can be made due. The mesh water bottle slots on each side, and many different gear pouches in the back of the vest make for customization of setup fantastic. The "claw" style straps really grip well. Unless you're a tiny framed person, the vest is very comfortable, I could see how a very small fella would be swimming in it, even when tightened all the way though.

I liked the Grounded Vest, but just 2 things prevented me from loving it.  For the $$$ of these new vests, I'm gonna love it before I keep it.  I disliked the box call pocket and the buckles on the shoulder straps.  I use a box a lot and I just didn't care for the pocket.  Maybe a person would get use to it??  The buckles landed right on my gun stock.  I plan to give it another shot if they change the buckles...which I heard they are.
