Title: K&H RNG 200 Vest Modification
Post by: Dhamilton1 on May 01, 2022, 02:06:25 PM
Had a semi crazy though this morning.

I like my RNG 200 vest but I don't like the pot holder pockets. Too cumbersome to get the pots in and out, in my opinion.

Thought about removing them and having new holders sewn on. Either a zipper style or a fleece pocket with a draw string.

Anyone ever mod their vest this way?

i just wear an 'ol tom flyweight shirt with the nice vertical chest pockets under my vest. it holds pots and strikers well

I only carry a single pot in the lower holder, I like it but want to rig some kind of keeper, though I haven't dumped a pot yet.

I modify my vest every season to some extent. There's really nothing crazy about it, guys have been doing it for a long time.
When I bought my original Ol Tom vest it had magnetic closures which I cut out and replaced with buttons because they are more secure. I also sewed a dedicated longbox pocket into the side and a trumpet tube holder so I can carry a backup trumpet besides the one around my neck.
I also fashioned a slim fixed blade knife to the front vest strap and created a slot to hold my compact binoculars. I'm still working on getting the striker pockets just right so I won't lose anymore strikers!
These are just a few of the modifications I've made over the course of owning the vest and I got to tell you I like it much better now then when I bought it.
So I think you should definitely customize your vest and make it work best for you. If you're anything like me, you'll never find the perfect vest right off the rack.

The pot pockets have been my only complaint about the vest, I have had them fall out a few times. Mostly 3.5" pots, but I've had to trace my steps and find a few. I want to add something to mine to keep them in place

The pot call pocket is my only real gripe with my Tacticsl Tat'r II.   I will be looking for a good mod for that.
