Title: Quiet WV Birds
Post by: Dhamilton1 on April 30, 2022, 12:10:08 PM
Birds seem real quiet in North Central WV this year. Had a couple gobbling this morning but it was random and were not responding to my calls with gobbles. Just when they wanted to.

Maybe henned up or maybe call shy? This is on public land so it could be anything.

Anyone else experiencing low activity or quiet birds?

Didn't hear a gobble at all this morning. Yesterday heard a few but they started late and like you said they were sporadic.

Thursday they gobbled great, called in 2 but they stayed out of range.

Last week was good for me also, didn't get one but had opportunities.

Don't know what's goin on with em, just a crazy bird I guess.

I'm in Ritchie county on private land.

Hunted Tygart Lake last Friday and Pruntytown last Saturday. Hunted Little Indian Creek WMA today. May have to switch it up and hunt in the rain tomorrow.

hunting northern Mercer County and if you hear a gobble on the roost you are a lucky hunter. still looks like the dead of winter where I'm hunting. hoping after the upcoming storms tomorrow things will start to pick up next week.

Hopefully things will turn around by then. Was out again this morning...heard nothing but crows. At least I'm getting some scouting done for bow season, lol.

I must have been in the wrong part of Mon County on Saturday then, heard a couple but they weren't interested in me. Didn't get out Sunday due to the rain but know I kind of wish I did lol.

I'm in Hampshire county and gobbling is slow here to but i believe it's because of the hatch last year was so good. I've never seen as much turkey sign in the woods as you do now. Hopefully as the season goes it gets better

Quiet in southern part of the state for myself and reports from others.  Turkey numbers are down quite a bit from what they were several years ago ....... less turkeys = less gobbling.

There was a mid morning lull both days between 7:30 and 10 but that is to be expected.

same here ceejay. I hunted southern WV this morning and from the vantage points I had I could've heard a bird in VA but not a peep. Woods are covered with scratching. I'm hoping things change....

Took half day off work and went out this morning. Arrived before daylight and stayed till 10:00 and didn't hear a gobble. You can hear a lot of ground from this property and there's scratching everywhere
