Title: Little trick for some newby's
Post by: jhoward11 on April 29, 2022, 11:39:33 AM
I'm sure some of the experienced guys have tried this. But it is a site to help new hunters. I set up close to roosting birds, w/ 2 hen decoys. They gobbled back and forth multiple times. As soon as I thought it was day light enough, I made a quick fly down cackle and took my hat and slapped it against the inside of blind to sound like a fly down. Immediately heard more wings flapping. Flew down to edge of woods and a few short steps toward decoys and I put him down at 30 yrds. May be worth a try for someone. Good Luck!

Good tip.
Since I don't hunt in blinds I use an old turkey wing I kept from a previous bird or my baseball cap slapped against my chest.
Just another tool in the box.

Another variation is an old pants leg sewn closed in one , cut to about 15-18".   Grab each end and jerk back and forth making the popping sound.   Also doubles as a head cover for the gobbler when you kill one and are carrying him out.

Or...  Take your pants off...  Slap them against a tree (sounding like wings flapping).

It will excite the gobblers, and if you are hunting high-pressured areas, anyone watching will likely avoid encroaching on you.

Better yet, for amplified effect...  Take the pants off...  Climb up a tree, and flap those pants on the way down.  NObody will bother you, and you might get a tom lit up!

Works every time, never let them know your next move

Great tip- I've used this truck many times with an old wing I carry in my back pouch
