Title: A couple videos from this spring on the Go Pro
Post by: derek on June 12, 2011, 08:24:00 AM
Tried to self film with the Go Pro Hero HD this spring.. overall I was not impressed, as its a wide angle lens that doesn't do well outside of 20 yards.. But it was still interesting..

These two jakes were at about 30 yards and can barely be seen.. please mind the overcalling, I was just having fun once I realized they were jakes.

Here's a longbeard kill, can't see either the longbeard or hen that was there before the shot as it was kind of a poke at 54 yards..but the "after the shot" was pretty funny I thought.

You can't really see much but your gun and your knee. If they were inside 20 yards you could probably make out that they were turkeys. Not bad once you got to the flopping turkey. I see you use an HS strut knee rest. I've used one for years and it just reminded me that I didn't use one this year. I got to go look at my vest and see if it is still in there.

I think the film quality is great, but if you cant see the bird, whats the point of filming the hunt.

....dang Carl Lewis ;D.......you covered that 50 yds in about 2 seconds flat...... :jackson:

Pretty good quality of the video, if it only had a zoom feature it might not be too bad. It wasn't grainy and didn't shake all that bad as you were running, not bad at all.

BTW, nice job on the cover of "wagon wheel"........ :you_rock:

I gave up on the camera after the jakes video came out how it did, as they weren't but 30 yards away and I had much higher expectations with it.  It has its applications just turkey hunting isn't it.  It's designed more so for extreme sports.

I just purchased one of those GoPro cams. I thought about setting out with the decoys. The kids are having fun with it in the pool. It does take some neat video, turkey hunting may not be the best use for it.
