He's gotten some jakes but never a tom. This was a fun one. Took 45 mins to get in range. I've been practicing gobbling with a diaphragm and decided to give it a try and it worked well. When they lost interest I'd gobble and they'd be curious enough to come closer and look around. One got to 40 yds but my boy couldn't see it due to the lay of the land so I got to watch another 10 minutes of a Tom strutting in shooting range just waiting for him to walk left. He ended up being in my boys sight at 30 yds and he dropped him.
Congratulations the smile says it all and I bet the one behind the camera was as big

Congrats! Great job. Neither one of you guys will ever forget that hunt.
Never had much luck gobbling, but really haven't tried it much either I guess. Pretty cool that worked for yah.
Well done sir! That is how you hook the next generation for life! That must have been incredibly exciting!
Congratulations to the young man!!
That's a great story, not a lot of sons today have fathers that'll take the time to teach them about life and how to hunt. Congratulations to you and your son for taking a nice bird.
Well done to you both!

Wow, thank you. I'm blessed to have two sons and a daughter who all love the "adventure" of hunting. Often, they teach me as much as I teach them in a different way, you just have to listen. I was told to always keep it fun with them when they were really young hunters and it doesn't always have to be a hunt. I can remember abandoning several hunts to look for cool rocks, arrow heads, old bottles or just stop and build a blind. Let them play with the call and sacrifice the likelihood of killing a turkey. Just keep it low pressure and teach them at the right moments. It worked. They love hunting and fishing and I win because hopefully when I'm old they'll drag me along with them.

I have been hunting with my daughter this season, and we have had some action, and I can already see, I will be far more excited for her, when she kills a bird than I would be for myself...

If you thought the excitement from getting a Tom in range was hard before, just wait. It's like hunting with a handicap. So many moving parts (figuratively and literally)

Awesome. Congratulations to you both. My daughter's and I have been hunting the youth season here in NC and haven't been able to get a gobbler in close. Had a chance on Monday but had a neighbors dog run out in the field and run them off. Congratulations again brother
