Title: Headed to Texas
Post by: WW on March 29, 2022, 10:32:53 AM
I'm flying out in a few hours to try the Rios. I haven't heard many reports on those south Texas birds but I sure hope they're getting right! It's the most wonderful time of the year boys...let's kill'em!

Just got back from a youth hunt in the north zone.  Birds are still in large flocks.  No green out there at whatsoever.
Birds appear to be on a decline out there as what seems to be the case everywhere.  Not the same Texas as I remembered fo sho!   My lil man did connect on one longboard and let several jakes walk.
Good luck fellas!

Same scenario I found opening weekend in south texas. However I just had friend who went after we came home and they did fairly well.

Dead here in Coleman, TX. Looks like the desert and birds aren't talking. It's hard to make me sit over a feeder and hunt them. Just not fun or sporting. Going to Albany in the morning to another ranch. Hopefully they will be doing something.

It's a 27hr drive for us so thankfully I have an honest cotact there.  In short, don't come this year he said!  Good enough for me.

Very smart because looks to me like the bird numbers are way down

Hunted in South Texas March 21-24. There were 12 or so hunters in the first group and there were 10 hunters in my group. The numbers there are way way down. Granted there were some large flocks, but out of those 20ish hunters, I believe there were 9 turkeys killed and my buddy and I accounted for 4 of them. There were several hunters who hunted 3 days and didn't see a bird or only saw a couple hens and a Jake. Some guys left early. Not good...
