What calls are y'all putting in the vest for opening day?
I'm taking a Bob Buckner adjustable, Richard Hudson hen box, and a mouth call I made. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220311/f2822137ee7e5a6238a0f3caa84c6476.jpg)

I wish I could chase one now. Going to have to wait until April 1st to get after them.

Just a variety of different calls.. boxes, pots, small trumpet, push pin and a couple of mouth calls .. alone with the other necessary essentials ..
Right now I'm thinking I'm gonna go with: last seasons very productive S&S purpleheart over mineral poplar shortbox, a great Scott Basehore yellowheart over mahogany longbox, a very consistent Dustin Jones crystal over cherry walnut pot, my sentimental favorite Randy Clark "small talk" slate square-pot, and a Lewis Stowe ironwood trumpet around my neck....but that could definitely change tomorrow :cowboy:
Two Daybreak pots ( one ceramic and one slate ) / hustlin hen box / couple of lost lake mouth calls / custom Harrison hootn stick
DH crystal mistress, derby city slate, SS short box. Can't come soon enough!
1 mouth call
I Lonnie snead hot hen
And 1 trumpet
Buster Halford persimmon green slate. Brad Roberts glass. Peck Martin Cherry Bomb. Toss up between an AGE osage X trumpet or a ringed gidgee Greg Gwaltney made me, a Permar improved Jordan, and a Gooserbat Soul Sister. Three pots, two yelpers, and a mouth call. As far as guns, probably tote the CZ 1012 on the opener and shoot him with a load of Apex Ninjees!

Carrying 1 AGE abw trumpet, 1 Gaskins scratchbox, 1 mouth call. Less is more and that's all I need.
A scratch and dent box call I got from Gooserbat, a walnut 25th anniversary Super Yelper scratchbox call, my trusty Primos limbhanger mouth call and a no-named slate call that I inherited from my dad.
Brazilian Rosewood Mark Prudhomme and Kenny Pedelahore trumpet and either a 5.5" or 6" Buice Osage.
I generally carry 12-20 or so mouth calls, a couple of slate-surface pot calls, a handful of strikers, and a tube call. I occasionally carry a box call just to have some added weight to lug around... ;D

I don't even know if I will hunt opening day. Its mainly weather dependent and I kinda like for all the box call squawkers and hooty hooers to flood the roads and woods to give the turkeys a heads up that its game on. If I do go, at most I will take a bunch of diaphragm calls, a yelper of some sort, a scratch box and a pot call. A shotgun and some shells.
Everything but the kitchen sink on opening day. I'll look like a Sherpa guide carrying National Geographic's expedition gear up Everest.
By the end of the season I'm carrying some mouth calls in my pocket, a trumpet, a tube call and a seat cushion.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220311/9385187eb315944017528993c2aa5e2a.jpg)

I think Herb McClure mentions an old timer using a laurel leaf in his book Native Turkeys. It was either there or Nunnery's Old Pro. I will say I've tried it. You can get a cluck out of one with some practice. And if a man kills one that way, by god, he's got my attention!

Going with a crystal mistress, outlaw hen, buster glass, Mac slate. Watkins fiddle box. A diaphragm or two.
I'll pare it down to a half dozen mouth calls if I can.
I'll have a firedup crystal and a Pat Strawser slate in my vest.
I don't often carry a box call and none made the opening day list.
S&S short box,Buster red slate,Yingling titanium, couple of JLH strikers and a Ezolt wingbone as of now.
Greg
Prudhomme and/or KP trumpet, spring allure ceramic or mabry/durham/Cody slate and a.couple of Gooserbat mouth calls, Tom Swatter and Heckler. Mabry scratch box
SS short box
Lonnie Sneed Hot hen or Outlaw Hen
Enticer Silver Thunder Extreme Aluminum
Gooserbat Classic Hen mouth call
Mike Yingling Copper/Slate
Fred Cox Red Cedar Scratchbox
Pots - Yingling copper, Halloran CM, Buster ceramic, Nathan Taylor red slate, and a Sinclair bronzed glass (I like my pots...hard to narrow it down to just 5)
Strikers -probably trim it to just JLH frogwood and tail feather, Herrman gaboon ebony and tulipwood, Remnaric tulipwood, Stuckey dymondwood, Halloran hickory, Fowler black locust, and woodhaven birch laminate.
Boxes - If I take a box (probably won't) it'll be a Mark Six wenge/mineral poplar.
Trumpets - Misfire flamed box elder and Gwaltney desert ironwood trumpets (for in case I need to bump some birds...still mastering...ha!)
Mouth calls - a few Gooserbat bacons, several each of blue and gray ghost from Pinhoti, will Primos signature series
Gun, shells, pruners...and TP!
I always take way too much with me for the first week or so. After that, I'll trim this list in half, or more, and rotate other pots, strikers, boxes, and a Crawdad trumpet in.

Reminds me of the first time I met the wife's Grandpa. We were sitting in his yard. He plucks a blade of grass and starts making turkey yelps. He passed before I every got to know him.
Iffy if I make opening day, but hopefully soon after. SS short box ( walnut/poplar ), Enticer Aluminum pot probably a Persimmon Hill slate.
More than likely my old trusty 835 will make the first trip afield. Once I've killed one or two with it (maybe I'm being overconfident here) I'll try out the new 301 .410. I'll likely carry my marvelous cane yelper, 2 or 3 pot calls and 2 or 3 Gooserbat diaphragms. I typically carry 3-5 strikers (mostly JLH). I'm particularly interested in using the sinker bullet tree striker I have from Jeff.
