I know a lot of guys have a particular wood for a box, whether it's a paddle material or body material, that they often gravitate towards. For me it's Blue Mahoe, which isn't necessarily the "best" or most traditional box call material but Marlin sure can find a turkey in it. What's your favorite?

I have a Blue Mahoe and mora and the Blue Mahoe is probably my favorite wood for the box. I would love to have a lineup like that

. Out of those, what is your favorite combo??

Mora/Mahoe is a damn good one, probably his most common Mahoe combo. My favorite though is probably his next most common Mahoe combo and that is, Hop Hornbeam/Blue Mahoe. I've got a four call set of the Fiddle, Fiddle Paddle, Misfit, and One Sider in Hop Hornbeam/Blue Mahoe from him and all four of them are exceptional, world class, calls.
You wasted your money. Should have gone poplar or cedar. Blue mahoe is for pot calls! lol

That's what Marlin tells me too! Lol. Since the very first one I've got from him.
I've played some calls on his table at shows in other combo's and you're not lying either.
Macassar/wormy persimmon in a bridge design
NASTY !!!!

Anything with a butternut bottom too. Bloodwood and Ipe over butternut. Take it to the bank!
This hop horn over poplar rules, I like his boxes that I've tried with butternut, persimmon, walnut, maple, cedar... the North American woods. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220227/721bf8769c23cb86eb3c102654aabdfc.jpg)

Walnut and cedar
Enjoying seeing the responses as I plan to pick up another one or two from him. I would say my favorite is probably mora/butternut or macassar/persimmon....very close though I like them for their own respective qualities
Lid and Bottom Bloodwood and body Apple
A Killer!

I love this peach and service berry. It was Marlin's personal carry call and he put the kill dates on it. I still plan to hunt with it. Also have Bloodwood & Butternut.

Bloodwood over Butternut. This box call has around 16 kills. This is my "go to" box and has a nice mature hen sound with a lot of yawk.

Mahogony/Bloodwood, and Butternut/Bloodwood both long boxes.
A few years ago I was lucky to get in on what Marlin called some truly rare apple wood,, paired with bloodwood,, someone offered me a Platz call for it but I turned it down,,its the only fiddle box I own because I know I can't ever get a better one.
Macassar is a Voodoo wood in my hands ! Always special magical qualities .
But when it comes to Mr Marlins boxes ... anything that ships out his shop !
And that's after getting to cherry pick his calls after the contest callers get thru at the nationals.
And to be honest it's something wood wise , visually , more than what it sounds like . They always sound great !
I recently got a Mac ebony over red heart from Marlin and that box is not only gorgeous it flat out screams turkey
