Post by: Gooserbat on January 30, 2022, 02:42:42 AM
#8...JWM1485... congratulations

Everyone has something that's a one of a kind custom.  It could be a Birthday Card from a mini-me, one of a kind Box Call, a knife forged in fire, a hand crafted traditional bow or bamboo fly rod.  It might even be a fine rifle capable of hitting a target farther than you can.  Anyway to showcase our custom diaphragm line, I'm giving away a package of two custom diaphragms.

To enter follow this link to the custom call builder https://www.gooserbatcalls.com/product-page/custom-diaphragm-calls (https://www.gooserbatcalls.com/product-page/custom-diaphragm-calls) to decide how you want your calls built and share your recipe in your reply.

And post on this thread what your favorite personal "Custom" item is.

I'll go first...

Two Reed, V Cut,  Yellow over Yellow, Medium Stretch
Three Reed, Ghost Cut, Orange over Proph, Loose Stretch.

280 Ackley Improved by Stewart Rifles

Rules:

#1  Winner will be decided via Google number generator.

#2  Winning numbers matches with the post # on this thread.

#3  Follow the directions or I'll disqualify your post.

#4  Contest ends at reply #100 or Wednesday night 11:00 pm central time.

#5  Just post the item and how you want your calls.

My favorite "custom" item is my Grandfather's 336 Marlin in .35 Remington. It was passed down from my Grandfather to my father to me. It was my very first deer gun. Before my father gave gave it to me he had my name and date he gave it to me on it. He gave it to me on Christmas of 1989. Now this may not be a custom made  rifle by a manufacturer but it is customized to me and can not be replaced. It doesn't get used for hunting a lot anymore because I hunt a shotgun only area. But it gets pulled out and taken into the range a couple times a year and it is still in great condition.

The recipe for my calls are has follows

Two reed red latex top reed/green latex bottom stack with a medium stretch and a ghost cut

Three reed orange latex top reed/natural latex bottom stack with a medium stretch and a split V Cut

Two reed that plays like a three reed, reverse combo cut, orange over yellow, medium stretch

Carving knife a buddy of mine made me, on which he scrimshawed Teddy Roosevelt onto the handle. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220130/a219be2f13e1ae57e9d67cc07b6d1442.jpg)

Gosh I don't even know how to describe a custom call I'd want, but here's something.

I always end up trimming about a 1/4 inch of tape off, so my call needs to be cut smaller, double reed medium stretch and one v cut.

Second I'd like a good high pitched call for kee kee runs or higher yelps, but I have no idea what reed combo would do that (can I just defer to expert opinion?) Can I just say build that?

An Old friend many years ago made me a belt buckle from a timber rattler skin with a hidden knife. It stays in the drawer with my prized possessions.

My buddy that started me in hunting had a Winchester 1400. When we went hunting he just handed it to me to hunt with and he would use another gun. Done that for5 years before I was able to find one. About 30 years later, he came over carrying that 1400 and asked me to hang onto it for him. During that time he quit hunting due to health reason. I changed to deer and turkey. He past away in 2015. There's 2 guns that I will never get rid of that 1400 and my 270. Thank you Dale, may you RIP.

2 reed, ghost cut, yellow over natural, medium stretch
2 reed, ghost cut, orange over natural, medium stretch
( or just 2 of the OSS)

Old timer single blade folding knife my dad gave me when I was kid. I'm 52 now. Not as much blade now due to keeping sharp.

Know nothing about making a diaphragm call.
Make one raspy on the yelp
The other I can purr and cluck with easily.

Thanks for this giveaway and all your support.
Two Reed V cut, yellow over yellow, medium stretch
Three reed, ghost cut, orange over proph, loose stretch

1890 Winchester 22 WRF, serial number 64922. My father-in-law left me this when he passed. The gun is original, never re-done. A one of a kind treasure for sure...

My one of a kind is a buckeye that my hunting partner gave me for good luck just before he passed away. It makes every hunting trip with me.

I would be interested in trying out the two calls you mention as your favorites, Sam...
Two Reed, V Cut,  Yellow over Yellow, Medium Stretch
Three Reed, Ghost Cut, Orange over Proph, Loose Stretch.

This Gould's gobbler is definitely one of a kind...  ;D

I too would like to try the calls you described. Im still learning and haven't developed enough knowledge to have a call tailored to my likeness.

My custom thing is a wool dress hat that was my grandfather's.
He gave to me to wear on my wedding day.

Favorite Item- My Grandpa's Winchester 94 30/30.   Lots of deer and a bear killed.   Bluing is worn off in most places.   need to deer hunt with it someday.

Call-   Orange over yellow, loose stretch,  ghost cut-    I think that would give me a Jake yelp.

Thanks for doing this.

Just to be different...

Black latex top, 4 reed in prophylactic in combo cut, medium stretch
Orange latex top, 3 reed in prophylactic in ghost cut, medium stretch

I have a lot of custom items if you count turkey calls, but I'm not.

I like my custom Beretta White Onyx O/U 12 gauge shotgun.  I had the stock shortened to fit my LOP.  Many a dove, pheasant and quail fell prey to this gun.
