I know a lot of guys are rolling their own. Me personally I'm an Apex man. But I was wondering what different folks favorite TSS brands are? Federal? BOSS? What you shooting?

I load my own, seems Apex is the most common and probably Federal, Foxtrot has a strong following and seems highly regarded!
Foxtrot

Another Foxtrot
Foxtrot again.
I load my own but if I was going to buy it would be the ones Hal is there involved with, Tungsten Super Slam.
Apex Ninja or Federal #9s. I keep seeing and hearing good things about the Foxtrot and the new Rogue loads.
BOSS
Apex and Rob Roberts Custom Shop in my 20ga, and Federal in my 12ga. I tried the one's Hal sells, but my gun didn't like them as much as the Apex and RR's.
i will be shooting Apex this season
Nitro Ammunition Company. Been shooting it since before Apex was blowing up guns.
Foxtrot, but he doesn't like OG. What's going on?
Federal was pretty good. Apex works quite well for me so I have't tried any other. If I were to, Foxtrot would be the first one I ordered.
Apex or foxtrot
Fox Trot
Federal 9 for me
I roll my own for the 12 but have also bought and liked Foxtrot for the 20. I would probably roll my own for the 20 if I was set up for it.
I do my own now but before I used nitro or apex

Brice has his own forum, Gobbler Nation, and it seems he sees OG as a competitor. I visit both.
Apex
Foxtrot and also use Hal's and Ronny's recipes rolling my own...good people to work with, helpful...
The old Hevi-13 7's work GREAT. No need to change IMO! And I have plenty!

I do not recall the OP saying anything about someone changing from what they are using. Seemed to me he was just asking that IF you USED TSS and did not roll your own, what company did you use?
I've used Federal but haven't used any others. I tried them and they worked.
I personally wouldn't touch another box of federals as Ive tried 25 or so rounds in several different firearms.
I've used Federal 20ga. #9 TSS with good success, bit I'm switching to Rogue shells this season. A friend of mine uses the Browning TSS loads and they work really well for him.

In my guns the federal was not impressive at all compared to nitro, apex, foxtrot burgess creek. Patterns were not great. I wouldn't spend that much per shell on the federal. Just me

Federal never patterned well out of mine either compared to the Apex.

I load my own and actually back off the max payload and keep the FPS around 1200, best results for me. If I ever buy any it will be Foxtrot, they are the most consistent even Patterson. I will go back to lead before I purchase another Apex product. No explanation needed. Shoot what works for you :OGturkeyhead:
I've shot handloads since 2015 but was running low on an out-of-state trip so bought a box of 3 1/2" Federal #9s as backup. They were pretty much junk in comparison to hal's recipe handloads.
I started with the Federal 9's in my franchi, they won't feed the second shot. I emailed Apex and they said theirs would feed, looks like they trimmed the hull a little before they roll crimped it. The Ninja 8.5 is what they had in stock so that's what I got. They give a lot hotter core than the Federal 9's but the 20" circle was thinner. I probably will shoot the federals first and follow up with the Ninja until they are gone.
I forgot Hal was selling ammo now, he got me started hand loading so I would definitely buy from him.
Nitro TSS 20 ga 3" #9s. Bad news on gobblers.
Apex
Roll my own for the 20 but Foxtrot for the .410

Just curious. Why don't you like Apex? Bad experience with them?
I still have 5 boxes of Federals left. Once that's gone, I will probably experiment with other brands. Right now, the Federals are working great.
I shoot Federal #9 and have had nothing but good results with patterns and on Turkeys. I wouldn't be afraid to try others but see no point since I have enough for the next several turkey seasons.
Apex #9 through a full choke gives me a nice even pattern, with some wiggle room.
Federal 12 gauge , 20 gauge , 410. good enough for me .
Bought 11 boxes of 20 gauge during the 15 bucks a box Cabela's/bass pro sale. 200+in the 10 out of everything I shot them in, including a fixed full Winchester 37A 20 gauge.
The Federal 410 beat the Browning loads and the Apex Ninja were terrible out of a fixed full anyway.
Sorry but who is this Hal that I keep hearing about? And how do you contact him in reference to ammo? Thanks
I like Apex out of both my guns. Patterned much better than the Federals did out of my setups. These are the only two TSS brands I have used. I have been wanting to try some other shells just because I like to see what is out there.

Thank you, I have been to that site before. Didn't know he was a member on here. Each time I have been they have been sold out. Guess that means they are popular. I will keep an eye on his site and try some out.

If you hand load buy tss shot from hal and he will give you load data

Don't see any .410 on there

I wouldn't mind trying Foxtrot TSS but at nearly $60/box for 20 gauge?

I'll stick with Apex and save $12/box unless someone can convince me Foxtrot ammo is far superior to anything else out there!

It isn't
My handloads.
410 - federal
12ga federal last year bought apex this year was cheaper
20ga apex
Federal has been working well in my 20s, got enough left for this season and possibly next year also. After that may make a change due to price. Wouldn't mind trying Hal's product.
Last season was my first opportunity to shoot TSS.
I shot a longbeard in Alabama with 20 Federal TSS and a Merriams here at home in Utah with 28 ga Apex.
I was blown away in pattern testing to see how effective TSS really is.
Is there much savings in reloading? Or is the advantage that you can custom fit your loads?
Apex 12 gauge 3.5 # 9 shot. Sumtoy choke. All I've ever shot and seen no reason to change.

I've honestly tried a lot of different brands and all patterned well out of my setup besides the federal. That being said I know people that use federal and get great patterns. I've shot apex, foxtrot, tungsten super slam, and the brownings all with good success. The tungsten super slam were probably the best out of my setup but all of those shells would kill a bird at 50+ yards easily

Have used both Federal and Browning with good results from my 3" 870 and .410
Federal shoots good out of my 835 with a Carlsons TSS choke, it's the only one I've tried in it so by default it's my favorite. The Browning .410 TSS shoots real good thru a tuffy turkey I bought my son last spring, hopefully it lays one on the ground come April, then it will be my other favorite :icon_thumright:
Favorite is Apex out of the out of the 4 I've tried, but I got in on the pre order for Wilson's Custom Loads and looking forward to patterning the 3" 20ga 1 5/8oz #9.5s that I ordered. They have a 2oz 2 3/4" 12 ga that I really want to try out and compare to Apex as well.
From what I remember I'm not sure if Verdict ammo is for sale yet, but I could be very wrong. I remember the Blue Collar Outdoors boys mentioning the Verdict shells would be for sale soon.

Apex Ninja 9.5 or Foxtrot Legend 10 in my .410
Rogue 9.5 in my 28 gauge-- fantastic pattern--
In my guns, Browning was the worst, Federal didn't match up well against Nitro, Apex or Foxtrot
Very excited to hunt exclusively this Spring with the .410 and 28
I have only used Federal (besides some custom loads from a friend several years back), but it seems to me that comparing TSS loads is like asking what .30 caliber rifle cartridge is best for killing rabbits. ;D :angel9:
Going to try foxtrot devestor this year. In a 7.5 and 8 blend. Shaken not stirred
Just checked out federal custom ammo. Could not help myself. Just ordered a heaping 2 5/8 ounce load of 7 &9. Ten of those and 10 of foxtrots should last me a couple years

Were those the 10 gauge loads? Love to see a pattern pic with that monster!

That'd be almost a thousand pellets if it was solid 9s

Bet them suckers was pricey!

I haven't tried enough brands of TSS to have a favorite. been using Apex in my 12 gauge the past 2 years with no complaints. I did buy some 383 Strokers at Foxtrot to compare to the Apex Ninja's in my new Savage/Stevens .410. I don't expect major differences but I may be wrong. Gonna run some through the factory choke, the IC .385, and maybe the IC .390 when they become available. Haven't looked at Hal's shells but he didn't have .410s on there when I checked today. I think Nitro makes a good load worth looking at, but I probably won't this year.
Not sure if anyone else got in on the pre order for the Wilson Custom Loads, but these showed up today (1 5/8oz load of #9.5). Looking forward to patterning these out of the three 20 gauges I have with a handful of chokes. I have 0.562-0.585 to play with. From the videos I've watched from Blue Collar Outdoors pattern testing these should be pretty good. We'll see if they beat out Apex for me this year.
