Title: .17 V MAX shells
Post by: wildturkey6 on May 29, 2011, 10:21:11 AM
I went out and shot my Ruger 77-17 yesterday ,shot 50 rounds of winchester 17HMR V Max and out of 50 shells 7 of the casing split from the neck down about 3/8 of an inch. What do you think this is an indication of ,hot loads from the factory, problems with my ruger,or is this normal? I have never noticed this and I have fired 1000's of rounds through this rifle.Help me out here tell me should I try to notify Winchester about this problem or Ruger.

I've had them split on me before...  I still shoot them though.  Great bullet, great caliber.

I don't think there is any danger in them damageing my gun because it is such a small caliber. Just wondered if anyone had ever seen this before.
