I found a Remington 11-87 Special Purpose Turkey that is all camo, kinda like a treebark pattern and sports a 21"barrel.The gun is used but i have no idea what year it is.It shoots 2 3/4" and 3" shells. Can anyone identify what year this 11-87 was made with this camo pattern?
Any opinions on these autos,,,am considering this or a Mossberg 935 and not sure which one to get.
Thankyou,
Kdog

Looks like MO bottom land. I'd snatch that up if the barrel and action are good
Remington can tell you the date of manufacture. May be able find it on the web site or just send them an e mail.
That looks like Trebark camo from Jim Crumly. If it is, the gun has been around for awhile. It would be pretty easy to date with the serial#. As stated earlier, the action and condition must determine value.
:smiley-patriotic-flagwaver-an
it is treebark universal it was made in early 90s then it came in bottom land and greenleaf in 94 :z-guntootsmiley: :pow-mia:
the serial # will indicate its production year

If that gun is in good cond & has a good price on it you had better get it. I bought one brand new in the early 90's. It is a turkey killer for sure. I paid 699.00 for it then. I have killed a ton of gobblers with mine . IMO it is better than the new Remingtons now.

I'd snatch it up! :z-guntootsmiley:
Hey Guys thanks for the replies i really appreciate it! The gun looks to be in excellent condition,,,a visual inspection of the barrel and action and overall condition of the stock is very good.It still has the factory choke tube and im kinda thinking this gun hasnt been toted around the woods very often.
I dont know if the price is any good or not though,,,,There asking $600 so thats why im hesitant.Do these pattern well with the 21"barrel,,,i like the shorter size but if patterning is a problem id likely pass on it.Im also considering a Mossy 935 that has a 24"barrel its at the same shop and roughly the same price.Any advice which one to jump on????Both of them shoulder about the same to me and feel good. This will be my main turkey gun,,ive been useing a old H&R Topper deluxe single shot for years and kinda really like the nostalgic look of this 11-87.
Thanks for the help guys this one is tuff,,,,old vs new.
Kdog
Love that old school camo!!
Walmart has 11-87 SM for 577 new
1992 was the first production year of that gun in trebark..actually prior to original bottomland on the remingtons then greenleaf
I would take that gun over a MJ any day of the year. Jump on it, cuz for $600 your not going to find another like it, especially if its in good shape. If you don't want it, let me know where its at and I'll call the guy up and buy it sight unseen.

Don't know about that gun but the 1187 sport clay was built along that then was very good. I know some folk with them and had thousands of rounds shot in them. I sold one for 800 and see them for 600 to 700 all the time. They been shot a lot more then that one so money is in line.
Dog sent you a pm.
I have three 11-87's in my safe -one is a original from 1987 and is my dedicated waterfowl gun , reliable and soft shooting - i will note that the 1187 is slightly heavier than the newer and way more expensive auto's
I noticed a advertisement by the versi-max where they had a chart of all the recoil, and the 1187 beat out many of the newest models , and I don't even think the 1187 had the supercell recoil pad on it
If you get it , get rid of the factory plastic magazine shell follower , these will eventually bind up the cycling
If I lost all my guns , I think a 11-87 with 3.5 in synthetic with a 26-28 bbl would cover me for a all in one sportsman's shotgun
:smiley-patriotic-flagwaver-an WOW,,,,I guess sometimes u just fall into a good deal and i just got a smokin deal i believe. Not to boast or anything but when i went back and looked it over again i asked if they would drop the price.Well the gun has been in the shop for roughly 30 days and the salesman would only budge $30.I really wanted this gun after looking at it again and seeing it was in pristine shape. No marks or scratches on it whatsoever,,,Barrel and chamber were excellent as well as the action.I noticed the numbers and letters on the left side of the barrel and we dated this gun back to Feb of 1992 and was the NWTF Gun of the Year for that year,,,not important but kinda cool fact.
I himhawed around awhile and was looking at a few other guns,,,Mossy 935 and a few 870's when one other salesman came up to me and asked if i seen anything i liked?I told him i was looking at that older Trebark 11-87 and he says to me "Yea some older fella brought that in about a month ago and is in great shape,,,It also comes with 2 other barrels,,,,,,a 21" cantilever deer barrel and a 26" field barrel and has 5 chokes total and a choke wrench."As soon as he said that i told him SOLD!!!
I figure theres at least $400 in the 2 extra barrels plus the gun itself and 5 chokes total! I walked out of there with a HUGE smile on my face.Im sure glad i spoke to the other salesman because the first 2 that i spoke to knew nothing about the extra barrels.
Heres a few other pics that i took for the forum to enjoy. It really is in excellent shape,,,the 2 extra barrels are blued not camo but i dont think the game i shoot will mind.It also came with a 1 year warranty from the shop and one free cleaning.
I just want to thank everyone that helped me out with this purchase,,i really dig the old school TreBark pattern it looks like it will disapear in the woods.
Sincerely,
Kdog

P.S.
One last thing any reccomendations on a aftermarket choke,,,Probaly will be shooting heavy shot out of it.
That is one sweet shotgun! :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:
Jelly head .660 and shoot hevi 3" 2 oz # 7. Turkey killer for sure
Nice score, I am green! May she bring you many long spurs! :you_rock:
Nice gun and an awesome deal with the barrels. You are set!! :z-guntootsmiley:
Kdog
Indian Creek .665 choke shoots real good in mine with hevi 13 3" 2oz. # 6's . Good luck with it. You got a smokin deal with 2 extra barrels.
vaturkey :newmascot:
Wow !! that is a deal !!!
Thanks for the responses guys,,,i took it out and shot some winchester Supreme 3" 6 shot lead that i had laying around it shot terribly with the factory choke, lol.I have some Hevi-shot mag blends here but i dont want to waste them shooting it through the factory xfull choke.
It looks like the JH .660 and the Indian Creek .665 are the way to go.I believe i saw the JH at a local store for $20 but im not sure if it was one for the Remy.If it fits the Remy i'll go the cheap route and try the JH first.Im shooting a JH out of a H&R Topper deluxe and am happy with its performance.
Thanks,
Kdog
You might want to try a Pure Gold .670. They throw a killer pattern.
Here's a killer pattern out of my 870 Express 3" 2oz #7 load with my Pure Gold .670 choke just to show you what I'm talking about. That's the backside of the turkey target at a tape measured 40yds.

Congratulations on your new gun. I currently have two 11-87s and one has had thousands of 3" turkey loads through it over the last 20+ years. It's a very tough gun.
I have replaced several parts but no gun is made to absorb that kind of punishment. I have 24", 26", 28" and 30" barrels for those guns and the 26" delivers the best patterns, consistently.
You have a gun that should last you a lifetime and deliver excellent service to you, no matter what the purpose.
Thanks,
Clark

Your welcome.
And I forgot to tell you nice gun. I have a Rem 1100 that I bought like in 1984 that is just a great performing shotgun that shoots very well. I love Remington guns period. The 1187 is just a great functioning, shooting gun that will last a long, long time.
one good looking shotgun and a heck of a deal

Looks like mines twin :z-guntootsmiley: If it was a greenleaf model I'd jump all over it.I luv these older patterns!
Yours looks in great shape Rhino someone on the board mite be interested in that.
A jellyhead .665 with some Mag Blends will make him bounce when he hits the ground, would also consider a Puregold. Good Luck!
Kdog,
Congrats on the purchase. I have a Rem 870 older model with a 21" barrel. FWIW- I have shot many chokes with mine and all types of Hevsishot. PureGold .670 shot the worst. Jellyhead .665 and H13 .662 shot decent numbers with 3-2-7s and 3-2-6s. Then I discovered TSS... so I have quit searching.
The PG was sent back, no questions asked and I got my money back. I would definitely try an Indian Creek .660 OR .665. Maybe check out Sumtoy too, he is getting great reviews and is a member on this forum.

Anyone interested???
I have the exact same model purchased in 1990? Its a great shotgun. you'll love it. Its ironic you spoke of having a single shot before, I grew tired of lugging the 1187 w 2, 3" 2oz. loads (to lighten it up) in the hills running and gunning and recently bought a NEF 28" full choke to hunt w instead! $85 at a gun show. Used but in new condition and patterns pretty good. Heck Ive never shot at a turkey more than once anyway W any shotgun! The recoil w the light single shot is brutal w a 2oz. 3" though. In fact I found out on the way home from the gun show, my buddy and I stopped at a place we hunt and I fired a turkey load sitting on my new turkey seat w/o a backrest. Im 6'2" 205 and my feet flew up in the air as I rolled backwards w the shot! My buddy laughed hysterically and said "HE&% NO" when I asked If he wanted to shoot my new gun! ;D
^ That's a pretty funny story. Sounds like Youtube material to me.
