Title: President Jimmy Carter + Georgia Gobblers.
Post by: quavers59 on April 18, 2021, 10:13:02 AM
I bet former President  Jimmy Carter is back in the Turkey Woods after that bad Fall he took almost 2 years back.
He probably  takes his 3 Gobbler limit each Spring. Wonder what Calls he uses down in Plains Georgia?

I just hope he's a better turkey hunter than he was as president. Not a fan of his at all.. But i do wish him well in the turkey woods..

He's a good ambassador for the sport even though he wasn't a great president.

10 bucks says his secret service body guard calls in his bird, shotgun sits on a tripod, and rides a golf cart to the sanctuary spot.

No way riverbuck. Old Jimmy Carters Calling ability might be equal to yours or better. He might have a short walk to a Honeyhole on his Land where he can work his Calling magic . He probably  has 6 decades+ of calling practice  behind him.

Hey look, I'm not discounting the man's skills and I too hope he finds success but come on... He's 96 years old.
That's a 9 with a 6.
I'm gonna hold steady at $10.00 and honestly doubt he makes it in the woods this season.

-Standing by for a 2021 JC kill shot.

I was in the U.S. Army when he was president.  IMO he was a horrible president.  Botched the Iran Hostage Crisis.  My unit was on alert ready to go(I was Infantry and stationed in Alaska at the time) to Iran.  He decided not to send conventional troops and sent Delta Force instead.  We all know how that went. I also remember those high interest rates and the long lines at gas stations! Glad when Ronald Reagan became president.

He is supposed to be a decent fly fisherman too. Not to sure about that either.  He fished Spruce Creek here in Pennsylvania on private water with stocked pellet head trout that anybody could catch.  More than likely the same could be said for his turkey hunting skills.

This is not a Thread about politics. I am writing about one of the few Presidents who ever hunted.
Now when he took that Fall several  years Back- he had ready taken 2 Gobblers and expressed  dismay that he would not be able to Tag out with his 3rd Gobbler.
So, I  disagree with riverbuck. Obviously  Carter was actively  Turkey Hunting. ..

Nothing I've said can be construed as political.
I don't deny JC was a turkey hunter.
Indeed he did fall several years ago and got a bunch of stitches around his eye then a few weeks later fell again and broke his hip before a turkey trip.
With that said, bless your heart if you think a 96 year old man is hiking to the woods this season and calling in turkey.
I don't think he's hunting but would welcome someone prove I'm wrong.

My point which was totally missed is that if by slim chance he is in the woods somewhere in Georgia chasing birds... he gets there by golf cart, secret service calls one in, and I bet he can't hold a shotgun steady.

The man is 96 years old w a history of falling and breaking his body.

I don't agree with most of Jimmy's politics, but I believe he is a genuinely good fellow.  I hope he is in the turkey woods and doing well.

If I'm still around at 96, I'll be happy to have all the help I can get to chase birds.

And just so you know, he fell at 94 and had killed 2 that year before he fell.

Politics aside, I find that pretty amazing.

Right Sixes!  There are some that have great Genetics, lifestyle, or both that seem to go forever. Jimmy Carter is one of them- still out there in the Turkey Woods.
I once worked with a Man who showed up for Tough Warehouse work at age 74. Worked with him until he was 84. He passed at 93.

I would not speculate on anything.

Just had a 94 year old patient who still runs his ranch and drives a tractor.   Fly-fished with a gentleman in his mid 90's as well, and although he was not terribly successful, he did catch some fish, fishing from a float tube.

I'd guess he is not making long hikes in steep country, and I'd guess he has access to some fairly productive property.  But I see no reason why an elderly man could not call in and shoot a turkey.  Yeah, maybe someone drops him off at his spot, but I would be inclined to believe that he still calls and shoots himself.  I have found that the physical skill of running most friction calls is not nearly as difficult as knowing what sounds to make and when to make them.

He has always been a likeable, sincere man, who was a terrible president with awful policies.  I think that there have been a number of presidents since (republican and democrat) who have been less than honest in their intentions; I believe Carter had the best of intentions, misguided as they were.

In these times of increased polarized political beliefs, I would far rather judge and be friends with someone based on their character and how they treat me, over their current or past political beliefs.

In my life time, the Bush presidents both hunted (although I believe both enjoyed fishing more), so did Clinton...  I do not know about Nixon, Ford, or Regan???

I believe that Trump has been hunting and does not care for it, but his son is an extremely avid hunter.

There is not a more famous hunter than Teddy Roosevelt (although he is a tad before my time).

Granted, Carter is/was the most avid hunting president in the past 50 years...

I saw him teach Sunday school at his church years ago with my aunt and uncle.  Pretty solid human being - his work with Habitat for Humanity is about the most non-liberal charity I have seen.  Those people work for those houses and pay them off too.  Pretty impressive deal if you have never been involved.  It is a lot of fun and hard work too.

I was a young un when he was Pres and could not vote for Reagan and his election.  Missed it by like 3 days (I turned 18 a few days later).  His policies were terrible and he gave away the Panama Canal.  But no matter how bad his policies, he still loved America.  I would give anything to have a liberal like him running today.

Jimmy is..., a well intentioned,  kind person ...but like the road to bankruptcy and hell ...that road is paved with good intentions ...therefore sadly history has him marked as a terrible president,  or in other words a idiot ....

Ronald Regan ...they guy who beat the pants off him , was perhaps our best president in living history..he had and the conviction and courage to stand up to the Communists , and eventually BREAK THEM

sadly today people can run for office and openly declare them selves a socialist,  and or placate to them because they want thier votes

No great leader in modern or ancient times ever became great by "caving" in to bullies....could you imagine if leaders like Winston Churchill didn't arrive by the grace of God,  when they did?

By the way the IDIOT in office right now saw it fit to remove Winston Churchills statue out of the oval office

There is much more I could say but it crosses the line in polite talk
