Title: Wood identification
Post by: twyatt on April 01, 2021, 04:34:57 PM
Anyone know what kind of wood this is?  Came off of a gorgeous old barn.  Looks like it could be a couple different kinds.

The 2nd picture (yellowish board) is a cross section of the last picture.  I don't believe it's walnut.  I'm pretty sure that the first picture is oak, just not sure about the others

Definitely looks like oak end grain on that first one. Could the yellow board be Osage. I can't tell from the pic.

Top pic is oak, middle pic not sure but I wouldn't rule out chestnut since it's an old barn, the wall pic is some sorta softwood, pine, fir, hemlock etc.

I'll see if I can get some cleaner pictures.  I can have anything I want out of this barn, but I'm not really interested in oak.  Poplar or chestnut yes.  Mainly looking to see if there's anything here that would be good for calls.
