Having problems with the insurance company. A while back a big hail storm came through and just ruined everyone in my neighborhoods roofs. All my neighbors had their insurance cover theirs. Well I go to talk to my insurance and they send an engineer out to check out the damage. The 1st report says there is bad hail damage. He comes back again with the roofer that it going to be doing my house and then he states that now my shingles were put on incorrectly and now my insurance will not cover the roof repair.
Didn't know what could be done since they did say it was hail damage the first time and everyones home around me had hail damage that insurance did cover.
get a lawyer!these insurance companys are as bad as our gov..

If an engineer came out fist and called it a hail claim then it should be a hail claim. The only way to come to the conclusion that the shingles are installed correctly is to break the seal and lift a tab. Unless you already had some wind damage. Incorrect installation would only mean one of 2 things. Felt? Or more than times than not nailing.
It is odd that they sent out an engineer instead of an adjuster.
Now if the shingles were on your house when the insurance was taken out then they should cover it regardless.
We are talking about a hail damage claim. If the roof has hail damage than it should be covered period.
If there are at least 10 hits in a 10 by 10 square than it is relevant and should be replaced.
I usually meet with my customers adjuster when they come out. Most door knockers just have you sign a contingency and tell you to call them when the adjuster leaves.
I would fight them on it until they bend. Go over the adjusters head and get his boss and so on until someone listens. Just keep calling and calling. Get another roofing company out there and ask for a second opinion. It helps to have a professional back you up.

If you don't want to go the lawyer route, you should be able to file a small claims suite against them for a nominal fee. My son did this for auto glass damage from a tree in a rental unit where his finacee was baby sitting. They tried all excuses not to pay but ended up settling just before the court date. Make sure you have lots of pictures and the installation contact if possible. If they were existing at the time of the policy they should be automatically covered and then the agency can go after the contractor. Good luck.
