Title: FF ll Mounting
Post by: hawk on February 13, 2011, 10:36:35 AM
I'm totally confused over mounting one of these things. If your gun is drilled/tapped do you need a Weaver/rail type base? What is a Marlin mount? I found a FF ll at our local Cabelas w/stripped out threads on the base. Seems like I could get a new base some where but what type? It looks like there are two different types. Cabelas wanted 150.00 for it.

The base you need depends on gun type and which mount you prefer.

The marlin bases was designed specificly for Marlin 336 rifles.
It has been adapted to use on flat top style recievers.
I will write a post and request it to be a sticky.

So in the post at the top of this forum the picture of the BPS w/FF2 mounted is that a Marlin set up?

If you are wanting to use the Marlin 336 mount then you will need to have your gun drilled and tapped for the a Marlin 336 mount as they are not set up the same as a weave base mount drill and tap.  A quality and experienced gunsmith should be able to do this for you very easily.

that is a good price. You will have less than 200 in it with the marlin base.
