The following update of currently impacted state hunting and fishing seasons is an unfortunate reality as they were this past year... I will continue to update this when states ease and or rescind restrictions entirely. Instead of season shutdowns, many states have opted for 10 to 14-day quarantines with options of 72 hour testing to forgo the quarantine which modifies our plans at the least, or ends the possibilities of taking the trip in the worst scenario. In general most of the restrictions will affect all travel without regard to purpose. Canada is currently shut down for all recreational activities for non-residents.
Please review your home state for return restrictions as you would for your next hunting or fishing destination as 23 of the 52 states are currently subjected to restrictions....

So Kentucky recommends a 14 day quarantine. I live one mile across the state border from Kentucky in Tennessee. I am planning on hunting Kentucky this year.

Read down thru the restricted states, some mention it, some do not. This a much larger state's rights issue vs federal control of travel and commerce between states. I am from NY and I can't say much about how its being ran, or how they have handled the outbreak despite being handed millions in resources. I apologize for the leadership I certainly did not vote for.
Looks like I should be good to go

Looks like maybe some of the states are over looking people who have taken the vaccine in my opinion. Looks like this information for some states was put together before the vaccine became available. Interesting for sure how all of this will play out this year.
Information is as current as 2/6/2021 also after checking multiple sources. State covid websites updates are weekly if not daily. Should you see something not up to date, let me know as I do not rely on one or two sources. It takes a bit to verify all this.

Just because you got the vaccine doesn't mean that you cant be a carrier and transmit. They are going to use this card to keep us shut down as long as they can. Makes the test worthless doesn't it now too? Except the focus is hospital capacity isn't it? So if you cant get covid you can't go take a bed in the hospital... See what I'm getting at. Stop the spread or stay out of a hospital bed?
Mumbo jumbo political garbage
I tested positive for the antibodies last March and negative for the antigens through a physical I was taking for my retirement from the Army. Meaning I had it sometime at the beginning of 2020 or late 2019. Didn't show one symptom. They can keep the shot no need in taking it if I have the antibodies already. That's like shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted. Didn't show not one symptom so I was surprised about it. They did an additional test to confirm so I could donate blood and plasma to help with a vaccine/study the virus. In my mind since I have the antibodies and I donated to help create it I will wait until next year to take it and let them give it to the elderly and people that have pre-existing issues and people in high risk jobs like front line workers educators etc.

First of all, anybody that could not see the possibility of this happening again this spring hasn't been paying attention for the last year. If we don't get this under control, it could well happen again next spring.
The real questions to me, as one who would like to travel a bit to turkey hunt this spring, are these:
> What constitutes "quarantining"?
My current understanding is that it means you go to one location and stay there and stay away from
contact with anybody else you might infect. If that location is in the woods where you will have no
contact with others, is that going to be acceptable? And if you are in the woods by yourself, will you be
able to travel in those woods in a manner in which you will not have contact with other folks? And who is
going to enforce any restrictions on that sort of activity?
> If getting tested prior to a hunting trip is acceptable, will I be able to be tested in my home
state/community prior to leaving on my trip, or do I have to get tested once I arrive in the state I'm
going to hunt? Will I be able to take one of the "quick tests", either administered by someone else or
with the self-administered kits now available?
> How are the states going to enforce any of this? Are there going to be "check stations" at the border of
every state? If not, are we going to be required to go straight to a test site to be tested for the virus? If
not, is there going to be someone following us to wherever we are headed and then enforcing the
quarantine?
In the end, the easiest way for states to prevent people like us from traveling to other states to hunt is to just not sell us hunting licenses. I fully expect that to happen again in some of the states that did it last year, and probably more to be added this year.
The "well, I'm just gonna go huntin anyway" attitude some folks seem to be spouting is all well and good,...up until the time you get caught out in the woods and end up with about a $5,000 fine on your plate.
Bottom line is that we turkey hunters are likely in for another rocky road in terms of getting to hunt wherever we want this spring.

Thanks for asking was wondering the same thing. It seems like the vaccine is becoming much more available. We actually received a call from a our health provider to come in an get the shot.

I am anticipating getting the vaccine prior to most state's seasons, as well. It would be nice if that was going to make a difference,...but I have my doubts. I don't think enough folks will have gotten the vaccine in the next few months to make a difference this year. We'll see....
I've had both of the Pfizer vaccine shots. I will wear a mask out in public or around my unvaccinated friends, but I'm planning on hunting out of state for sure. I suspect many states will require a negative COVID test within 72 hrs before arrival and perhaps another if you're in that state 4 or more days. They may questionably cut you some slack if you're 2 weeks out from the second shot and therefore have as much benefit from the vaccine as you're gonna receive, but still will probably require testing as you could still be a COVID carrier.
It's everyone's business, but I've already bought the out of state licenses I can currently buy in case a state decides later to not sell further tags. I was refunded last Spring every state but one, so there is little downside to having a license/tag in hand.
This could all go sideways if the newer variants of COVID render the vaccine less effective. I'm optimistic that this will be a somewhat normal Spring, though it won't be completely normal for sure. There's just not been enough folks vaccinated to even begin to approach herd immunity.
Honestly I don't see major changes to the current restrictions. They didn't restrict non residents deer hunting this year at least in Kentucky and Tennessee. Now last year Kentucky did stop non residents from buying licenses right around turkey season. So like I said, being one mile from the Kentucky state line I am going to buy a Non Resident Kentucky license this year. Since they are just recommending a quarantine instead of mandating one.

My wife and I both got out first shot this past Saturday and while we were there the number of people cycling through was a steady flow. The clinic seemed to be scheduling every 10 minutes and there were at least three rooms operating. Granted 18 an hour may not be a great number but it is a start.

There was a constant flow of people through the clinic and appeared the clinic was scheduling every 10 minutes with at least three rooms operating. Granted 18 people an hour is not a large number but it is a start. We received the Moderna vaccine where as Ron mentioned he received the Pfizer. I am also optimistic that the vaccine supply will become more available and things will start to return to normal. But being a fisherman I am a perpetual optimist.
Bottom line for me is that I am in a "play it by ear" holding-pattern right now,...hoping for the best, but expecting something less than that. As the old saying goes,..."What doesn't kill you will make you stronger". It's that "kill you" part that has me a bit concerned... ???
If you read down thru the restricted states it is an odd observation as to the differences. It has far more to do with power over others than it does science and best practices. Vermont allows for pre trip quarantine in another state. However NY does not observe their rule. NY allows border states nonrestrictive travel and yet PA says quarantine. Huge states rights mess vs federal jurisdiction of interstate affairs. With social media and big data, the braggarts of "I'm gonna hunt as I want" are easily caught if the states want to pursue it.

I hunted last spring as I typically did, altered one hunt. Never had an issue, never officially quarantined and had a great spring.
What better way to avoid this crap than being outside in the woods?
I traveled back and forth out of state to deer hunt this winter without issue either, and from the amount of people I saw hunting so did anyone who wanted too!
I just checked for Washington State and right now there's a 14 day quarantine after entering the state. But it's recommended, not required. If it stays like that, I'll be good to go.
Matter of fact, I just looked again and they're loosening restrictions in most states. I hope we will all be good to go.

The experts say if you are immune (by having had COVID) you can't spread it to others. That appears to be true of those having the vaccinations. Immunity by having the illness appears to last about 9 months according to the experts now.
States should incorporate that into their rules because that would now be approaching some 10% of the population.
I think 2022 will be a little better, I certainly wouldn't expect 2021 to be any better than 2020. Agree that anyone with a brain should have expected these restrictions again. Just have to be patient, we don't control the timeline, the virus does.
I honestly expect 2021 to be better than 2020 as far as restrictions go. We know a lot more about the virus and states are already loosening up on the Covid regulations. Airports are full and business as usual now...I don't think they'll wait until spring to lock it down again.
I got my first vaccine shot and am scheduled for my second on 2/18. After that I'll continue to wear a mask when around other people. Unfortunately, I found out the vaccine I got has the Bill Gates microchip in it so he can track where I am. How can I get it out of me? I don't want him knowing my secret turkey hunting spots.
I don't anticipate any problems with the states I intend to hunt. Most thinks are starting to open up.
I believe there will be very high number of hunters in the woods this spring.
I have gotten my first shot and have been quarantined for months...I hope and pray I can travel to hunt this spring!
So far so good, from what I'm hearing and reading! There aren't any states requiring a quarantine after arrival and no states requiring a negative test before flying in. All looks good for the traveling turkey hunter, at least for right now.
I have gotten my first covid shot and scheduled the second in three weeks. I am sure hoping to get to at least my neighboring state. Last spring was the first time in 30 years I did not get to hunt there.
I am doing KS, NE and KY this Spring. Have purchased licenses/tags in all 3 already so they cant stop me even if they wanted to.
None of the masking or quarantine stuff makes any difference anyway so live your life, do what you want, and be happy i say!
Just go and hunt and don't worry about it. That's what I do. Quarantine. That's for communist countries.
Brave souls taking that shot. All I can say.

"Recommends" is the key word. Doesn't say mandatory.
God bless Texas, wide open now. Good for them......other states will follow....
Maybe I'm a pessimist but I see the this administration not giving up the POWER. This is what they want. Total control of populations. They restrict interstate movement, tell you where, when and how you travel to other states, and basically restricting your freedom. Some states even tell what you can and can't do, where you can go etc.If you think things will eventually return to normal you are not living in a normal world. Once the government grabs power like this they don't give it up easily. Just look at the gun and ammo situation, I'm just saying with COVID, ammo and gun supply is practically non-existent. I'm just saying things should be looked and scrutinized with a healthy dose of skepticism, things are not what they seem on the surface. Just look at what is going on with certain states, those with conservative administrations and those with liberal administrations. You will see patterns emerging. Above all we should all be practicing protective behavior like masks, hand washing, hand sanitizer etc. Pay attention to DC and state capitals and the news. Stay informed. Not making the sky is falling warnings, just don't blindly believe what you are being spoon fed right now by the government. :z-twocents:
Not sure if i posted here already or not, last spring I barely changed anything, only major change was traveling farther to hunt a different area of Michigan where I had a place to stay and of course Nebraska hosed non res.
I hunted IL. Mo. WI. In. and MI.
Plans this year, NM. Co. Mo. WI. MI. NE. OK.?
not really a restriction, but a consequence of covid and other things
i went online yesterday to buy leftover tags for wisconsin. i always put in for 2nd season, get it, and then get in line early to buy 3rd(my favorite season).
i got into the online "line" yesterday and was randomly awarded number 2,000 something. when my turn came up i couldn't purchase the 3rd season tag. thought maybe something was wrong as i've never not been able to purchase in this fashion.
i called the dnr and the lady told me they had 16,000 more applications than last year. in my frustration i didnt ask if she meant just for my ZONE or the entire state. either way. gonna be a lot more dead birds this spring

on July 20, 2020, the Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH) issued an advisory for Kentuckians who have traveled to states reporting high numbers of COVID-19. The advisory recommends a 14-day self-quarantine for travelers who went to any state reporting a positive testing rate equal to or greater than 15 percent for COVID-19. Currently, those states include: Missouri, Idaho, South Dakota, Iowa, and Alabama. Puerto Rico is also included. It is recommended that visitors to these locations stay home for 14 days, starting from the date you left that location. This is not a mandate.
