Title: DSD decoys
Post by: 2flyfish4 on February 05, 2021, 02:01:35 PM
So I've got a DSD standing hen decoy. I'm looking for a backpack that is big enough to fit the decoy in along with hold some water, snacks and minimal other daily turkey hunting supplies.

Anyone have any recommendation on a good backpack that can accommodate the above?

You may laugh at this but I use one of these for my DSD decoys. I have the whole flock this can fit 4 decoys a small pack with water, pruning sheers, snacks etc and a turkey lounger chair. Not uncomfortable to carry either. I know a lot of guys think that's to much weight but it doesn't bother me so much. I am used to carrying a 100lb rucksack on my back for weeks on end. But it will fit what you need in it and then some, it's individual specific and only about $10.00-$20.00 bucks.

Yep something like this for duck decoys is what I run with my hens and jake combos. Works perfect.

Doesn't the mesh hang on everything that touches it?

Precisely the reason I switched to a smooth cloth bag. There might be a mesh bag out there that won't snag, but I'm not aware of it.

Mine isn't to bad at all, it's mesh but a rubbery type hard mesh probably gets hung up on briars less than my clothing. I got mine from Academy Sports not sure if you have one near you or not.

Many times I may only be carrying a single decoy, never more than two. I just place them in the big bag. Bags within a bag in the low light of early morn is just one more thing to fool with and keep up with I think. They do wear over time, so when it gets to a certain point, a bit of touch up paint is in order.

I keep my 1/4 strut decoy in his individual bag in the bag. Just don't like having that bright blue and red head on my back. But hens just in the bag. Like was posted before they may need touching up at the end of the season. I get mine from the DSD website and do a little touch up at the end of each season.

What about a military duffel bag from a military surplus store

Yeah that would work also. If you have trouble finding one let me know I have several. I just retired from the Army after 23 years so I have a lot of extra gear.
