Title: Franchi guys
Post by: thundrchikin on January 16, 2021, 03:09:46 PM
I just acquired a franchi affinity and in reading on the forum I see that sometimes there are issues with them cycling the Fed tss loads...I have just tested the loading of the shells by opening the bolt dropping in a shell and hitting the release button...I tried this 8 to 10 times all the rounds loaded into the barrel but there did seem to be a little hesitation..i realize to really see if theres going to be a problem it will have to be shot..but in your alls experience is this typical and still functioningor will there be a potential problem..i cycle a few other different 3" shells and didn't experience the hesitation..thanks for any and all input.

My Affinity shoots and functions with the Federal TSS fine. Others on here claim their's doesn't. Working the bolt by hand cannot match the velocity the bolt travels when a shot is fired so you may just have to try it and see how your gun does. You could always load the Federal in the chamber and back it up with a couple LongBeard XRs or Magblends...but try whatcha got first.....

Thanks for the reply and exactly what I was thinking too..I have several of the older Fed heavy weights in 7s and even some hevi 13 number 7s..Also took note that the bolt handle does not come all the way back when in the locked position out 1/4" more room..not sure if it comes farther back during firing operation but may be just enough...definitely have to shoot to be sure but with all the guys and info here thought I'd get some thoughts...thanks

You'll have absolutely no problem loading them or any other 3" shell. What's more, they will shoot and eject perfectly fine. The issue arises with the following shell. If it has a comparatively longer overall length, as most roll crimped 3" shells do, they tend to hang up. Fold crimped shells are no problem as are all heavy 2-3/4" shells. I would look for an 1.5 oz or greater 2-3/4" load. I think Apex has a 1-5/8 oz one that should work flawlessly in your gun.

mine cycles the fed without any issue as well, when i first wanted to make sure they would work i would load 1 in the magazine and then shoot a cheap 2 3/4 to make sure it was gonna cycle, i did that a few times and then when i patterned it with them i would load the magazine to with 1 also, i fired several shells and it cycled every time.

Just got in from shooting the Franchi a few times. I loaded 2 3/4 1oz loads in barrel and 3" Fed Tss in magazine. It cycled flawlessly every time. Very pleased with this gun so far. Thanks again for the input.
