Title: Late Season Buck
Post by: Spring Creek Calls on November 28, 2020, 06:57:24 PM
Had a hot doe in my area this morning with multiple small bucks seemingly taking turns running her near my tent blind this morning. About the third time around an 8 point was on her tail and I made a good shot with my 350 Legend at about 85 yards. 23 degrees and a hard frost had them on their feet this morning.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201128/34c91ccd0e7857de11557656f927a79a.jpg)

Nice job!!! I have been thinking of the 350 legend in a bolt gun. What are your thoughts on it? Have you killed several with it or is that your first with it? Thanks for any information and congrats

I've killed 4 deer with mine over the last 2 years. A well placed bullet has led to very short tracking jobs. We are able to use the straight wall cartridge in lieu of shotgun slugs in southern Michigan. It's very accurate with low recoil. Most guys here are shooting them or the 450 Bushmaster.

Thanks, here in Iowa we are allowed the same calibers and like you said many people are using them or the 450 and many of those are in the AR platform. Thanks for the information

Great deer Mike!

I went with the bushmaster only because it was available when I needed one for Ohio. Love the thing and still choose it over a standard rifle cartridge in certain situations in the north east where both are legal. 35 legend is a good load and these straight walls are soo much nicer than slug guns.

A lot of 450's around here as they were the first straight wall to hit the woods. The 350 Legend is a very capable cartridge in the 150 grain Winchester load, the only one I've used in the field. The above buck was shot quartering towards me thru the front of the right shoulder (circle in picture), breaking it and leaving a thumb size hole in the heart before exiting through the left rib cage. First deer I've ever knocked off its feet.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201203/e99768f4f815e7daf321f77fc6747db0.jpg)
