Title: Guy at Gun Shop drops my turkey gun
Post by: Cowboy on October 18, 2020, 04:39:14 AM
I went to my local gun shop yesterday to look for a new rifle. I bought a couple shotguns last year there. I had decided to trade the 12 gauge off and keep my 20 since I had others 12s. The new guy working there leaned my shotgun up on the edge of the counter while the gun manager was looking up the trade in value on the computer. After the guy walked off from my gun, It started sliding down the counter. I happened to look over there as this happened.  Unfortunately I was 30 feet away, looking at the rifles. I loudly said WATCH THAT SHOTGUN about it came off and bounced TWICE off of the concrete floor!! Gun manager looked up from the computer and put his hand over his face. He told me what he would give me trade in $$ and said you want to trade? I said yes after it bounced off your floor.  Lol lucky for me it was exactly what I paid him for it year and half ago. I traded it for a new 6.5 creedmor bolt action.

Great to hear they didn't try to squirm out of giving you a fair shake.

Hate to hear it but crap happens. Bet the guy felt bad as I have been in his shoes myself.

Absolutely pleased with my 6.5. Between my son and I we killed 3 Whitetails and 1 Sika stag. It does the job!

If "leaned on the counter" means the butt on the floor and the barrel leaning on the counter, I think the guy should be fired. Absolutely stupid! Either he's careless or not trained in gun safety and shouldn't be working a in a gun store. If anyone thinks I'm too harsh, ask yourself this. Would you go hunting with him?

yes, he leaned it up on the counter. Butt to the floor, barrel against edge if counter.  2 customers or 3 were close by and none of them saw it sliding.  I was over 30 feet away. He had taken it over to the other end of the shop and set it down. Yeah, he seemed very careless with everything.

yeah, hoping to snag some ammo this week.  Limits and low numbers at most places I've been to lately.

Basic rule of thumb, never stand a gun up anywhere without being on a rack where it can't slide. Basic gun handling, the gun shop guy should have known that. Accidents do happen, but with firearms accidents are taboo. Glad you got the new rifle. Good luck....
