Title: Best choice for readily available slate
Post by: cwalker5586 on March 07, 2021, 08:06:06 AM
Hi guys, what would you suggest for a readily available slate call? Bought a custom last year from here in Mi but to be honest I'm not real impressed with the sound of it, thank you in advance

Contact footballer on here,  Mark Cunningham. I talked to him and had it in a week. It sounds very good.
His YouTube to hear his calls.

Also if you don't properly care for a slate or any wood pot call it could potentially change the sound and leave you not so impressed with it. Slate will absorbed moisture and kind of sound dead. Leaving a call in the sun or a hot car, or the call left in a wet vest form a rain shower. Storage and care is important.

I can recommend some callmakers that could have one ready right now or in a week or so.

Mark Cunningham (footballer)
Chad Remenaric (bigslam51)
Mike Yingling (just bought a slate from him and received it Thursday)
Chris Brumfiel
Jimmy Schaffer (Oak Ridge Custom Calls)
Brad Roberts ( B&C custom calls)
Gooserbat
Hanks

Not sure which callmaker you bought your last call from on here but these are some of my recommendations.

I am pretty sure you can but the wait may be a while. He only makes so many calls a year if I am not mistaken. Just wanted to give him some options and Brad makes a great call if you are willing to wait.

My son got the crystal and the slate and they sound great!  He liked the slate best at first but was tearing up the crystal yesterday.

Mike builds great sounding and looking calls. I own seven of his calls. Great choice.

I just got a double glass in poplar and a green slate/ cedar from brad in the mail. Shoot him a message on Facebook or give him a call to see if he has anything available. I don't think he's making as many as he used to but i only had to wait two weeks for mine.

I contacted him today.  All he has is raw aluminum, which is still pretty great!
