Turkey Calls / Re: Thank you giftLast post by Marc - Today at 04:26:09 PMI think such a call would be a great gift...
I would like a Trumpet call myself, but know nothing about them. When I purchase a call as a gift, I am generally purchasing a call that I have some experience with. Last calls I purchased for others were scrathers from Lonnie Gilbert. I have used several scratchers, and had the best experience with his calls. He put some personalized engraving (with their names) on them, and they sound great... If I wanted to get a bit more spendy, I would go with a good custom box call or long box call from a call maker I have had a good experience with. I would also have it personalized with engraving... Me... I would love a good trumpet or wingbone call... I would also enjoy learning to use it... Good luck... It sounds like your friend is lucky to have you as a friend! #7

General Forum / Re: Taking the safety off...sp...Last post by Marc - Today at 03:37:59 PMI have hunted public grounds with some degree of pressure, and have hunted private grounds with less pressure... I have yet to see a bird react to the "click" of the safety. However, I do not have a loud safety... And, I usually pinch off the safety to stay even more quiet (as I am just naturally in quiet mode while hunting turkeys).
I feel that talking and whispering is far more deleterious than the gun safety going off... Sure, plenty of birds still come in with quiet whispering, but I feel there are other birds that would have shown, that do not. I know that it is a lot easier to get a bird in range hunting by myself... Less movement to see, and it is difficult to sit in silence all day with a partner. I would think that the "click" of the safety would make them periscope their head for an instant? |
