General Forum / Re: Turkey NumbersLast post by nativeks - May 17, 2024, 11:52:25 PMQuote from: eggshell on May 15, 2024, 06:58:11 AMI agree with almost all the perspectives shared, but I strongly agree with the habitat findings. We've always had predators and turkeys done well. I do think raccoons are a much more prevalent since the fur market crashed. However, if we have good habitat I think their impact is much less. I also think Human encroachment is impacting turkeys. More and more land is being swallowed up and developed in some form.Kansas has Habitat First. They still can't get landowners to sign up. I used it for native grass restoration and tree removal, but I am a needle in a haystack on the landscape. Actually had a Jake strutting in my south field this year, but I haven't shot a turkey since 2020. I am still a sponsor member of our NWTF as our chapter does a lot of good work. https://ksoutdoors.com/Services/Private-Landowner-Assistance/Wildlife-Biologists/Habitat-First-Program/Practice-Descriptions/Practice-Descriptions-Specifications #4
Pot Calls Forum / Re: Removing a slate surfaceLast post by austinc - May 17, 2024, 11:46:42 PMI've used a heat gun to remove them. Set the heat gun on a table pointed up and hold the pot over it upside heating, but don't get it to hot. Then use a razorblade to clean old glue off the pot and the piece of slate. Goop works good, but I prefer e6000 on my calls.

Trumpets / Wingbones Forum / Re: Trumpet Calling Competitio...Last post by ChesterCopperpot - May 17, 2024, 11:28:01 PMI've never seen a competition where they just ran yelpers. Usually they have a set number of calls, say five, they have to make. Might be the plain yelp of the hen or the cutting of an excited hen or the kee kee run of a lost young gobbler, whatever. I took what they said in that video to mean they'd used yelpers before to make certain calls in competitions. But I could be entirely wrong.

Pot Calls Forum / Removing a slate surfaceLast post by Jamoose - May 17, 2024, 10:20:40 PMHey all, I have an old slate with a wood pot that's a good friend. A few years back the slate popped out and glued it back (forget what I used). Since then it became a lot more high pitched and touchy. Seems like it lost some vibration. I'd like to get the slate out without breaking it, clean it up and replace with better glue (I understand that goop is the stuff). Any ideas how to get the slate out? Heat the surface to breakdown the glue? Pour solvents in from the bottom? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!
