Title: My new custom dedicated turkey gun is ready!
Post by: lunghit on May 04, 2021, 12:41:26 PM
Check out my new dedicated turkey gun that is finally ready. I won this Winchester SX3 on Gunbroker a few months ago and it originally had a Mossy Oak marsh finish. I wanted to set up a nice 20 gauge for my son to use in the future so I let him pick the camo finish he wanted. I showed him some choices and he picked Mossy Oak Greenleaf. I sent the gun to Tarjac and it arrived back a few days ago and they did an amazing job. I can't find a flaw in the finish. In the meantime I bought a Trijicon RMR, Shotkam (will mostly be used on my bow), a few chokes and some Apex TSS to get it going. I hope to get to the patterning board before this season ends but if not it will be ready next year. It will go good with the rest of my Winchester SX family lol.

Thanks guys. Bink the SX4 20 is the middle gun in my pic but a 26" barrel. I really like that gun and it shoots dead on POA/POI at 40 yards with the bead. I hope I like the RMR with some time in the field but I will say the Aimpoint on my other gun has easier and better features. Can't wait to get some time at the range with it.

Nice setup, I have been looking for the sx4 20 gauge "universal" 24" for 18 months and can't locate one but did just locate the 26" "universal" in mobuc, I love the look of that gun. I am tempted to buy it but I know soon as I do,I will find the 24" model.

Thank you! Winchester and Browning are a year behind orders. I am waiting on a Woodland camo gun and they said expect a year wait. Probably the same with the 24" barrel models. Give them a call and ask they are great to deal with on the phone.

I am playing with the RMR and I am liking it much better. The auto adjust works perfectly and will be great in the woods. You can turn it on when you work a bird and no need to worry about adjusting the brightness up or down.

Love it! Looks like TarJac did a fantastic job on the dip. I really like the matte finish, i have noticed a lot of factory camo dips look almost glossy and the shine in bright sun is noticeable.I recently handled an sx4 and really likes how it fit and pointed, and was suprised by the light weight. If i didn't have my heart set on a new 16 gauge A5, i would seriously consider one as my next do all shotgun. May you have much success with it for years to come!

Thanks guys and Tarjac did an excellent job. I hope to have a bird with it by the end of the month but it's a rough season for me. Had some very nice looking patterns with it and an I.C. 575 but will hopefully get to finish the patterning job tomorrow.

Do you like having the sight mounted on your vent rib? How sturdy is it?

Only a few shots fired through it but I will be putting more through tomorrow. So far its fine and from all the reviews on Meadow Creek Mounts I am expecting it to be fine. I will be sighting in and firing some heavy Apex loads tomorrow after I leave the woods.

She came out nice!

Any updates to share? How is the cheek weld with the rib mount and RMR ?  :blob10:

The gun throws a great pattern using an IC 575 and Apex 3" number 8's. I did not count pellet holes but I will when I have to sight in again. Now I am changing sights for 2 reasons but not because of cheek weld or the Meadow Creek mount. I simply do not like the way the buttons on the Trijicon are arranged and also the fact that I will have to remove the sight to change batteries. That gets expensive with TSS because I would always have to confirm zero again.

The meadow creek mount did make the Trijicon sit high and I did put on a Neoprene Accu-Riser for proper cheek weld but I really don't think you can avoid that with any scope or red dot. I see guns all the time without a cheek riser but I believe they are just lifting their heads enough to see the red dot and making it work. I could have done the same with the Trijicon but I want proper shooting form. I have an Aimpoint Micro S1 on the way and still might need that cheek pad.

Good luck with it, you'll love the Aimpoint, sits nice and low....

Lh.......good feedback sir! Very much appreciated! I have a SX4 Universal Hunter in 20 ga on the way shortly and I happen to have a S-1 Aimpoint sitting unused in my safe......hmmm !

My SX4 in 20 gauge shoots dead on POA/POI at 40 with the bead. I'm going to hunt it with just a bead because sometimes I just want simplicity. I killed a turkey the other day with that gun and while I much prefer a red dot the simple bead was kind of nice lol. You will love the SX4

Excellent point. I have an 870 compact that I use a bead only on.....eyes aren't as good as they once were so don't prefer it BUT I'm with you on simplicity. Especially if there may be rain showers or towards the end of the season with green-up.....where things can get real up close and personal. I will check POA/POI and go from there.
