Title: #4 lead patterns
Post by: JodyPenny on April 24, 2021, 03:46:54 PM
Let's see some #4 patterns. Thinking of going back to shooting #4 when I run out of the #7 heavyweight I have. Most of my shots have been under 30 yards and #4 puts it on them.

Here's an old one.
Not a bad even hunting pattern.

3-1/2" old black #4's 2 oz @40

This was my most recent experiment. 3" Federal Grand Slams at 35 yards at the left, and 3" Federal Premium Mag-Shok on the right out of my BPS. The Grand Slams are my hunting load this year, the Mag Shoks are what my Dad has used for two decade out of his Magnum Wingmaster.

Nice killing patterns!
Prior to the patterning craze of the new specialized turkey loads, we knocked down gobblers at different ranges with 4's all of the time. Sometimes all it took was one #4 pellet!
For the past few years I've standardized on LongBeard ammo with great success. I only wish my mentor was still around to see these kinds of patterns today!   :camohat:

Unsure how to post pictures but I have a few on my phone. Winchester Long Beard 2oz 3.5" #4's are doing anywhere from 155 in 10" at 40 to 167. out of my Walmart 835 24" barrel with Indian Creek .675.

Just saw this............

I would generally never hunt 4's   But I monkey around with EVERYTHING.

Here's one from 4-5 years ago.

3 1/2" Winchester Longbeard XR #4
Winchester Super X2
Comp-N-Choke XXX-Full tube
65 in the 10" @ 60 yards

Lead 4 is still my go to in the woods where shots are close. They're not bad coyote medicine too
