Title: New Zealand Success
Post by: Hayudog on April 11, 2019, 12:07:14 PM
Not a turkey, but successful hunt.  We did about 2 weeks of driving the north island of New Zealand and vacationing before hunting. Saw quite a few turkey's on private land. Thought I should have a good chance to chase one if I got my Red Stag early in the week of hunting. Actually there were no turkey's near where I hunted Red Deer. I'm not a trophy hunter, so I always say to myself when choosing to shoot or wait for a bigger animal... if I'd shoot it on the last day then consider shooting it on the first day.  So, I closed the deal on the first afternoon.  We had seen good stags in the morning, and weather was threatening to close in later in the week.  We had hit the "roar" spot on the button.  Stags were roaring all night the night we arrived. Guide said they didn't hear more that a couple the week before.

Incredible country, gorgeous animal would be one of the few outside the US hunts I'd want to do.
